Joker 75 LogoOne thing that's certain with comic book heroes and villains is that they're moldable... changeable... adaptable. On the big screen (and the small one), every filmmaker that approaches a property is given certain freedoms to put a personal stamp on the characters, and that's something that can be exceptionally challenging - and daunting - especially when dealing with a character who has already been presented in several beloved forms. It's no different than when a new creative team approaches the same characters on the printed page - and that happens far more often than what audiences ever see on the screen. Reimagining a character is not an easy task, and "good" or "bad" tends to be a matter of passionate personal preference - and the general path of reaction is the same, and no property has seen it more than the world of DC Comics' BATMAN. Michael Keaton as BATMAN? No! Ben Affleck as BATMAN? No! Heath Ledger as THE JOKER... The kid from 10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU? Absolutely not! (posthumous Oscar). And here we are again, with the first-look at JARED LETO as THE JOKER from Warner Bros. upcoming SUICIDE SQUAD film. Revealed by Writer/Director David Ayer on twitter yesterday as part of the #Joker75 celebration, the latest version of "Mr. J" may be the most divisive yet - and we haven't even seen him in action...

A press release hit my inbox today that had me genuinely excited. My wife and I have shared our love of superheroes with our daughters since their birth, and thus I've shared their own growing love of superheroes with readers of this very website -- so the news of DC Entertainment, Warner Bros. and Mattel teaming up for what they're calling "A New Superhero Universe Designed Just For Girls" really hit the spot. DC SUPER HERO GIRLS debuts this Fall, bringing with it "an immersive digital experience, original digital content and digital publishing—providing opportunities for girls to interact with characters, learn about the storylines, and engage in customizable play." In 2016 we will see toys (including  "Mattel's first Action Figures for Girls"), TV specials, movies, apparel, books and more, all with the goal of "building character and confidence, and empowering girls to discover their true potential." We're in, and if you follow my social profiles for THE ROCK FATHER, then you already know why. It was just last Friday that we had "Breakfast With the Superheroes" here with Supergirl and Wonder Woman, but that's happened before...

BvSAs a kid who grew up on SUPERMAN as his #1 hero (though eventually, BATMAN took over), I loved Zack Snyder's MAN OF STEEL. Now, with BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE on the way, we're about to see SUPERMAN team-up with a new BATMAN, along with WONDER WOMAN and potentially a whole lot of other heroes as the JUSTICE LEAGUE takes shape. With filming taking place in Michigan right now, it's likely the "spy" pics are coming, and with that, Warner Bros. has released the first image of Henry Cavill as SUPERMAN from the new film. The costume has some tweaks, too - making it a lot closer to the comic books, with little flourishes and details making it different... yet the same. See the photo below, which was provided via Warner Bros. Entertainment. Credit goes out to Clay Enos for the shot (and click for Super high-res)...

FREE COMIC BOOK DAY is May 4th this year (also STAR WARS Day!), and while we didn't have the greatest experience at last year's Free Comic Book Day, I still get excited about a day devoted to sharing a love of comics with a new generation of readers.
