Childish Gambino's "This Is America" is one of 2018's most powerful songs - and one that ranks among my personal favorites of the year thus far. It's success has already lead to dozens of covers, parodies and appropriations, so it was only a matter of time until someone gave it a proper metal treatment... and now that's happened. Norwegian producer and multi-instrumentalist Leo Moracchioli has long-been one of my favorite cover artists (a fellow "Rock Father" as well), having built a global following for expertly-produced reworkings of countless genre-spanning hits. Through his Frog Leap Studios, "This Is America" hit Spotify and YouTube this weekend, quickly moving to the top of my personal playlist. Crank this up...

Unless I happen to be in Los Angeles for a premiere, I tend to skip the advance screenings of upcoming films. In large part it's due to being 50 miles outside of Chicago proper, which makes attending the advances logistically difficult - but there are exceptions. Star Wars is the one franchise that I consciously avoid attending press screenings for, even though it's the series that most would expect that I'd absolutely want to see early. The reason for that is that the Star Wars films are something special for our family, and for the modern films that Lucasfilm has been releasing under Disney ownership, the tradition is that my wife and I see them at the Thursday night "preview" showings, and then take our daughters to see them over the weekend.  My personal connection to Star Wars runs deep, and I was there working with Disney to promote the launch of J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 2015, on the ground at the Global Media Event to play a small part in ushering in a new era of Star Wars - a return to the saga that many felt would never happen. Now, with the release of Solo: A Star Wars Story, I think we've reached a point where all generations should be enjoying these films more than ever before... if they'd just let themselves have some fun.

Earlier today, Spin Master's official Etch A Sketch Instagram did a repost of an incredible creation from Willie Witte aka M.C. Etcher aka happy.little.etch. It's a quickly-iconic shot from Childish Gambino's "This Is America" music video - a clip directed by Atlanta helmer Hiro Murai that's racked-up nearly 60 million plays in just under four days. The incredibly multilayered video (see it here) has been a subject of intense discussion and dissection that began immediately following the performance of the song by Gambino (Donald Glover) on Saturday Night Live this past weekend. See the Etch A Sketch creation below, and be sure to swipe left on the Instagram embed to see video of it's making in progress.

The road to get here was an unusual one - perhaps as bumpy as a trip through an asteroid field while chased by Imperial TIE Fighters - but May 25th will mark the release of Lucasfilm's Solo: A Star Wars Story, and I'm excited. I think I'm actually more pumped for this one than I was for Rogue One, and I loved that film. What's at play here is the vibe, and the vibe is fun. A large bringer of fun, Lando Calrissian. With that in mind, actor Donald Glover is giving you as look inside the Millennium Falcon - Lando's Falcon - from an era before it became known as a "piece of junk." Seeing this, I really wish it was possible to get a Corellian Freighter to park in the driveway. You could comfortably live in this thing. Take a look...

The promotional activities for Lucasfilm's Solo: A Star Wars Story is now in full-effect, and that means quite a few new posters. I've enjoyed the western vibe of the U.S. posters, but now there's one out of the UK that is hands-down my absolute favorite. It's vibrant and I did it - plus Lando's bright yellow outfit really pops (see it below). Speaking of Calrissian, if you're like me, you've probably always enjoyed the idea of wearing a short cape like he does. Now, thanks to ThinkGeek (an affiliate of this site), you can have your own Lando Cape, and this slice of intergalactic fashion will only set you back around $70. Now, perhaps you want something a little less flashy - something more subdued that flips the switch between smuggler and scoundrel. In that case, you can pick up a Han Solo jacket very similar to the one worn by Alden Ehrenreich in the new film. Check 'em out...

It's the most-condensed promotion for a Star Wars film that we've ever seen, and personally - I dig it. Due to the close proximity to the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, promotion for Solo: A Star Wars Story had been held back a bit but now it's kicking into hyperdrive! A new TV spot just arrived and it showcases the crew of scoundrels about to pull of a job as we look into the early adventures of Han Solo and his new friend, Chewbacca. What's unique about this spot is that it might be the first example of a Star Wars spot using music from a popular artist alongside the typical score and trailer music elements. AWOLNATION's 2015 track "Run" is featured heavily in this one. Check it out...
