Entertainment Earth Proving once again that every day is some kind of "day," Friday, March 6, 2015 is ACTION FIGURE WORK DAY, aka "Take Your Action Figure to Work Day." Yes, March 6th is also #CrazyHairDay with Lalaloopsy (you could take those to work, too), but #AFWD2015 is a worthy cause to support as well, and one that's going to have many different spins. The deal is simple - take your favorite action figure to work with you, snap some pictures of it in interesting places or doing interesting things, then post them to social media tagged with #AFWD2015. Also tag #iCollectatEE and you may be randomly chosen and contacted by my friends at Entertainment Earth to win some cool prizes (the how and what is up to them). If you've followed THE ROCK FATHER on social media at all, you probably know that I've essentially got action figures at work with me every day - so if you want some inspiration, check out my Instagram  for a little bit of Toyography. Here's a little something to get you started... when I took Vintage 1977 Kenner STAR WARS Chewbacca to a very important business meeting inside a writer's room at ABC in Los Angeles...

One of my favorite toy lines of the past year is one that falls into that "for the adult collector" category - ReAction Figures by Funko. First launched with a series based on a scrapped Kenner ALIENS line from the 80s, these figures take pop culture licenses from years past, and give them the action figures that they would have had should they had toys back in the days when the original, 5POA (five points of articulation) Vintage STAR WARS figures reigned supreme. Following figures from BACK TO THE FUTURE, THE GOONIES, PREDATOR and TERMINATOR, the folks at Funko are rolling out a series of six characters based on John Carpenter's 1986 classic, BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA. This wave includes Jack Burton (Kurt Russell), Gracie Law (Kim Cattrall), and David Lo Pan (James Hong) alongside Thunder, Rain and Lightning. Check 'em out below...

STAR WARS Day is the celebration of Fandom for all-things relating to "a galaxy far, far away," and if there's one thing that STAR WARS is synonymous with, it's merchandising. George Lucas pretty much single-handedly set the standard for Pop Culture merchandising in the late 1970s, licensing his creations for the gold standard in collectibles, the original 12 Kenner Action Figures. Now, under the Disney umbrella, the onslaught continues, with an exclusive line of merchandise rolling out at Disney Store today, but with other retailers and licensees getting in on the May 4th Action. Below is an assortment of STAR WARS deals from around the web, most of which even Watto would approve.

Entertainment EarthAs MARVEL Studios' CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER hits theaters this weekend, the crew over at Entertainment Earth (an affiliate of this site) are celebrating with a one-week-only sale that offers 20% off all in-stock CAPTAIN AMERICA Collectibles (good through April 8), with everything from Hasbro Action Figures to Funko Pop! Heroes, clothing items and household goods up for grabs (you know you need a 'Cap glass, right?). But if you're wondering how THE WINTER SOLIDER leaves things in the Marvel Cinematic Universe ahead of the next movie, August's GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, the upcoming toys might hold some clues.

It's hard to believe, but THE ROCK FATHER (as a website) will enter it's fourth year of operation on Father's Day 2014, and today something landed in my inbox that has "Father's Day" written all over it... especially for Dads that are down with the Dark Side, just as I. I'm talking STAR WARS, and I'm talking Vader here... but as a Father - straight outta Jeffrey Brown's adorable books, DARTH VADER AND SON and VADER'S LITTLE PRINCESS. Just in-time for Father's Day 2014, Gentle Giant will bring these stories to life with a pair of limited edition maquette and book bundles, each limited to just 1,500 pieces. They'd make perfect gifts, and can be pre-ordered now via my friends at Entertainment Earth. Check 'em out below...

Back when I was a kid, STAR WARS was my main thing for a great many years. I was DARTH VADER for Halloween three years running ('82-'84 maybe?), and my collection of Kenner STAR WARS toys was impressive. While my original collection was sold somewhere around 1988 (which still sucks), I do have one of the vintage 3 3/4 inch Stormtroopers among a small collection that I've re-acquired and have displayed in my office. But for those that want something about 19.2 times larger, the crew at Gentle Giant have the answer... with a life-sized, 6' version of the original action figure. Weird? Yes. But we're talking about a life-size version of a toy that was a miniature version of something that was life-size. Check this out...
