Now this is a coup. Yes, Hasbro would like to build a snowman - and they soon will. Hasbro and Disney Consumer Products have entered into agreement for Hasbro to develop dolls and toys based on the DISNEY PRINCESS stories and characters, as well as the world of FROZEN beginning in 2016. These lines move over from Mattel, who has been producing Disney-based dolls for many years (we have quite a few here at Rock Father HQ). From the rumor department, there have been rumblings for awhile that Disney might be eyeing an eventual takeover of Hasbro (again, rumor and speculation here), but with Hasbro already producing toys from the Disney-owned STAR WARS and MARVEL properties, the addition of FROZEN and DISNEY PRINCESS into the mix certainly makes an alignment look more apparent.
While the details are slim, FROZEN's IDINA MENZEL herself broke the news yesterday that she'll be releasing a new album next month, when HOLIDAY WISHES hits the streets. Set for release on October 14th via Warner Bros. Records, pre-orders have already popped-up on Amazon for what will undoubtedly be the year's top new Holiday album for 2014. Even in an era where album sales are down, there's always that one big record for the season, and this looks to be it. Check out the cover art below, and look for the tracklisting soon...
Next Spring, audiences will be able to return to Arendelle...
Walt Disney Animation Studios has officially announced the new animated short FROZEN FEVER, welcoming back to the big screen Anna, Elsa, Kristoff and, of course, loveable snowman Olaf. Directed by Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck, and produced by Peter Del Vecho (read my interview with them here), with an all-new original song by Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, FROZEN FEVER reunites the entire Oscar®-winning original team from Disney’s FROZEN.
And you thought I was done covering FROZEN for a bit? Think again! On November 18, Walt Disney Animation Studio's Academy Award-winning pop culture sensation rings in the holiday season with the release of the FROZEN Sing-Along Edition on DVD + Digital Combo Pack (no Blu-ray, it seems). Available for pre-order now at Disney Store, this is the version that became a last-minute phenomenon that I discussed with filmmakers Jennifer Lee, Chris Buck and Peter Del Vecho back in February - put together after plans for the initial DVD/Blu-ray release were already in motion. Check out a just-released announcement trailer via Facebook right now.
I don't think I'll ever be able to stop writing about FROZEN here on THE ROCK FATHER. In fact, it's almost unbelievable that the movie only hit theaters nine months ago. That said, Idina Menzel's now iconic rendition of "Let It Go" continues to inspire, with over six million (I made that number up) cover versions currently posted to YouTube. Now, I've noted on several occasions that my favorite comes from THE LAST SLEEPLESS CITY, who rocked it up Pop Punk style a few months back (hear it here), and that hasn't changed - but I guarantee you haven't heard "Let It Go" like I'm about to share. From Sumerian Records comes BETRAYING THE MARTYRS' metallic take on the song. It's harsh - not kid-friendly, and might turn some of you off, but I dig what they did with the chorus around the 1:01 mark. The dueling clean/harsh vocals are interesting, indeed. Check out the new video below, and if you dig the song, download it on Amazon or iTunes.

There've been several running themes that I've revisited on occasion here on THE ROCK FATHER over the past few years, and one of the biggest is the importance of imaginative play. Especially right now, in the summer months - when so many would just surrender the little ones to a tablet or smartphone - it's important to get the kids outside and let their imaginations run wild. Playing dress-up is a classic tradition that works indoors and out no matter what the season, but when the weather is good, we need to take advantage of it. Actually, I posted about this very subject exactly one year ago, and now that Little Finn is mobile and can join big sister Addie in the action, we've been revisiting a favorite locale... but under a new theme. Two little girls... two young sisters... completely enamored with Walt Disney Animation Studios' FROZEN. I present to you, Anna and Elsa: Arendelle In Summer, featuring Adalyn as Elsa, and Finley in her new Deluxe Anna costume, graciously provided by my friends at BuyCostumes.com.
