Toys are about to enter a whole new realm, and according to Disney Consumer Products (DCP), that new "evolution of play" will be PLAYMATION - "where digital gets physical and imagination becomes real." This new system of toys and wearables will be launching this Fall, using smart technology to "inspire kids to run around and use their imaginations, as they become the hero or heroine of stories from across The Walt Disney Company." Playmation will launch with MARVEL's AVENGERS, with STAR WARS to follow in 2016, and sets based Walt Disney Animation Studios' FROZEN slated for 2017. If that plan says anything, it's that Disney and Hasbro are expecting this to be BIG.
If you're a fan of Walt Disney Animation Studios' FROZEN, you're no doubt awaiting more information about the development of FROZEN 2. While that's a little hard to come by, more cool collectibles based in the world of Arendelle continue to be released, and perhaps none are cuter than the Hallmark itty bittys. While Anna and Elsa have been available for a little bit now, they'll soon have company, as their friends Sven and Olaf are making their way into Hallmark Gold Crown Stores later this month. The duo joins an exciting 2015 itty bittys lineup that features characters from Disney, along with STAR WARS, PEANUTS, MUPPETS, DC Comics and more (get a full checklist here). The Rock Daughters recently received a pair in advance, and their appeal is undeniable...
For years there have been a variety of products and kits out there that allow kids to customize and color their own... whatever. We've had some here (several variations of purses come to mind), and while I've seen some of the stuffed offerings in the "Arts & Crafts" sections of our frequently-visited local retail emporiums, I'd never done any with the girls until now - largely because I'd always thought of them as a "one-and-done" kind of deal. Inkoos are The Bridge Direct's long-running series of color-and-create stuffed creatures, and the selling point for me (even though ours were sent for review) is that they're machine-washable. They're touted as "Draw, Wash and Redo!" - but how well they work? That's what I was aiming to find out... with The Rock Daughters as my usual testers. Our subjects: FROZEN's Anna & Elsa, each presented as part of the Inkoos Color 'N Create collection, and the Color 'N Glow Bob the Minion (of Universal Pictures & Illumination Entertainment's forthcoming DESPICABLE ME prequel, MINIONS).
The first official follow-up to Disney's FROZEN arrives in theaters this weekend as FROZEN FEVER plays opener to the live-action CINDERELLA. While kids like my own have been repeatedly tantalized by a 40-second trailer, the 10-minute short film is just an appetizer - FROZEN 2 is officially official. The announcement was made this morning at Disney’s Annual Meeting of Shareholders by Bob Iger, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company; John Lasseter, Chief Creative Officer of Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios; and actor Josh Gad, who provides the voice of Olaf.
It's finally here - the official trailer for the new short film, FROZEN FEVER. The official follow-up to Walt Disney Animation's Oscar-winning cultural smash (see all my coverage here) will debut in front of Walt Disney Motion Picture Studios' live-action CINDERELLA (get tix) in theaters everywhere on March 13. I haven't shown this to my girls yet, but what I can tell you is that Olaf steals birthday cake like my oldest does - not-so-stealthily, and in plain sight. Check out the seasonally-appropriate trailer below and start thinking Spring!
Since it's launch last year, the Disney Princess line of building sets from LEGO has slowly, but steadily been gaining a foothold here at Rock Father HQ. We've built a variety, from the now-retired Ariel's Amazing Treasures, to Rapunzel's Creativity Tower (reviewed here) and Cinderella's Romantic Castle. Our most recent build from this world comes from the Kingdom of Arendelle, with the first-ever LEGO set based on Walt Disney Animation Studios' Academy Award-winning FROZEN. Officially released on January 1st, we managed to score Elsa's Sparkling Ice Castle (#41062) a few days early on a post-Christmas visit to Toys "R" Us, and after teasing our build on the socials (here & here), it's time for a proper review right here on the site.
