This Back to School Special Feature is brought to you in collaboration with Music & Arts...

The "summer slump" is real, and it doesn't just have to do with what we as parents think of as the subjects in which kids normally tend to fall behind during the mid-year break. There's always a lot of emphasis on kids forgetting what they've learned, particularly in areas like reading and math, but even electives can fall off - and sometimes those are harder to get back into when the time comes. I know that this is true, and that's because we're living it right here at our house. Even if it's an activity that kids love to do - like playing a musical instrument - there's so many things vying for attention and the skills get a bit "rusty." That's certainly in no way a slight to the other activities as kids need time for free play and to have adventures - but now that the school year is upon us, it's time to get things back on track! In our house it's guitar and recorder that have the focus right now.

The spirit of true American metal is coming to Comic-Con International in San Diego this summer. In collaboration with AXE HEAVEN, makers of cool, miniature replica guitars, War Machine Marketing will bring an officially-licensed limited-edition set of PANTERA guitars to SDCC. Based on the titles of PANTERA albums and inspired by Dimebag Darrell's iconic "Dean from Hell," these will be extremely limited with just 30 sets of all 5 guitars available and 36 each of the 3 main guitars available each day.  Due to the extremely limited nature of these guitars, a raffle will be held each day to determine the order of who can purchase them.

One of the hottest new toys of 2017 here at Rock Father HQ is the latest American Girl - Girl of the Year (GOTY), Gabriella McBride. For the first time ever, the folks at Mattel revealed that their GOTY would remain available for the foreseeable future, and that change in routine was just the first move in what's shaping up to be a very big year. Ahead of Toy Fair getting started in New York this weekend, news has come down that American Girl will be introducing "a new series of contemporary characters and stories designed to speak to even more girls' interests, backgrounds, and experiences." It begins very soon - February 16 with the release of Tenney Grant, "a rising star in the Nashville music scene," and her drummer - American Girl's first-ever boy character, Logan Everett.

Two things I love: guitars and pizza. Apparently, Zakk Wylde also feels the same way, because if this new video is to be believed, his new line of guitars from Wylde Audio are, in fact, forged from the fires of his mighty Pizza Oven O'Doom. If you've ever wondered where guitars come from - specifically, where Zakk's Wylde Audio guitars come from, check out this helpful video that details the magical building process, and the power of Tree

While STAR WARS Day is officially over, a lot of people like to carry things into May 5th each year by switching "May the Fourth Be With You" into "Revenge of the Fifth," so let's roll with that for a second. My boys from PRODUCT OF HATE (NAPALM Records) recently wrapped their first North American Tour, which found them on the road with ALLEGAEON (Metal Blade). Since the tour wrapped, ALLEGAEON guitarist Greg Burgess has been posting some pretty impressive one-take videos on Facebook, and yesterday's found him celebrating STAR WARS Day with a full suite of John Williams' famous score pieces performed on classical acoustic guitar. There's the "STAR WARS Main Title (Theme)," "Binary Sunset," "Cantina Band," "Imperial March," "Parade of the Ewoks," and the "Throne Room/End Title" in there. Check it out..

THE ROCK FATHER is sharing #TheIndisposables in his life as part of a Schick® Xtreme3® sponsored series for Socialstars. Horns up! \m/ \m/

A few weeks into Spring and there's much to be considered. I've been thinking about baseball a lot (and writing about it on occasion), especially since we've been playing in the yard quite a bit (lots of "balls over the fence" to be retrieved). We've also begun some gardening activities - plotting the plan for the months ahead, while getting the post-winter clean-up all taken care of. There's also some "rocking" to take place, and with that comes a list of five important items when it comes to spring at Rock Father HQ. You could call them "The Indisposable" items of spring...
