Consider this as "Unholy Manipulator" Re-Revisited... and how is PRODUCT OF HATE connected to THE GOLDBERGS?

For whatever reason, October always seems to be an important month for PRODUCT OF HATE. This year, the band finds themselves in a holding pattern as the finishing touches are placed on their second full-length album, currently being mixed and mastered by Chris Collier (PRONG, Flotsam & Jetsam, KXM) at CMC21 Productions in Santa Clarita, California for a 2019 release. While the Halloween season for 2018 has work continuing behind-the-scenes to ready the next era for the band, the season brings with it some perennial favorites, and as I've noted in the past, I've had the good fortune to be a part of a few... one of which is PRODUCT OF HATE's UNHOLY MANIPULATOR. Whether you call it a "short film" or a "longform music video," it's a pretty special thing in that when we created it, the video paired the then-unsigned band with HELLRAISER star Ashley Laurence (who'd also appeared in Slipknot's "Snuff") and some big talent behind the camera (see below). And then there's the fact that yours truly handled directing/editing duties. The video gained a life of its own, eventually helping to secure the band a deal with Napalm Records, who issued PRODUCT OF HATE's debut album, BURIED IN VIOLENCE back in 2016. The video itself was originally released independently in 2012, reissued by Napalm for Halloween 2015, and it will forever live on as I feature it in 31 Days of Halloween here on THE ROCK FATHER™ Magazine once more! Evil monsters... wicked clowns... homages to RESERVOIR DOGS, FARGO, and THE WARRIORS... see it below!

With most of October now behind us, more folks are seeking frights in the final days leading up to Halloween. The crew over at YouTube has seen an uptick in searches for terrifying content, and tonight they sent over a list of the Top 10 horror films that people have been searching for and watching on YouTube. Some, like 2013's The Conjouring, are surprising, while the return of the SAW franchise to theaters with Jigsaw is no doubt fueling interest in the earlier installments. Also, 1988's Child's Play makes the list, right alongside Cult of Chucky, which hit Netflix, Blu-ray and AMC this month. And did you think that Pennywise would be left out? Check out the full list below!

We're entering final countdown stage as we head toward Halloween 2016, and for me that means that prime time to start watching the scarier stuff has arrived. For those who may be unaware, I have something of a "horror movie" past. You'd have to do some digging to find it, but I played a supporting role in one that was released in 2009... I used to do some work for a horror mag... and actually penned a few screenplays that were once set to become movies, but ended up spawning comics instead. Having kids changed my focus quite a bit, and with the exception of a few music videos that I've directed in recent years, for the most part I've moved the frights into the "seasonal" category, choosing to enjoy them as part of my annual Halloween rituals. As a writer for the Netflix #StreamTeam, I feel it's my civic duty to share some frightful finds for you to stream & scream in the last week prior to Halloween... but some aren't too scary, as I've got suggestions for the whole family.

Nope, you're not having deja vu, though I did say that exact same thing once before. You see, the Halloween season brings with it some perennial favorites, and over the stretch of some years and some past lives, I've had the good fortune to be a part of a few... one of which is PRODUCT OF HATE's UNHOLY MANIPULATOR. Whether you call it a "short film" or a "longform music video," it's a pretty special thing in that it paired the then-unsigned band with HELLRAISER's Ashley Laurence (who'd also appeared in Slipknot's "Snuff") and some big talent behind the camera (see below). Though the first film and its initial sequel were both December releases during their original theatrical runs, the SCREAM franchise has become a perennial favorite for Halloween - not just for the movies, but for their original soundtracks and scores. It was 20 years ago that SCREAM first thrilled audiences, and for 2016 the folks at Varèse Sarabande have issued the original SCREAM 1 & 2 scores on 180-gram vinyl, complete with incredible new cover art by artist Gary Pullin.  The first version is presented on "Bone White" colored vinyl, making it an instant collector’s item and gift for Halloween 2016, limited to just 3,000 pieces. The second version is a limited-edition FYE Exclusive, presented on “Blood Splattered” vinyl, limited to a pressing of just 1,500 pieces. See the full cover art and tracklisting below...

Back in 1989, HBO launched TALES FROM THE CRYPT - an anthology series that firmly captured my 12/13-year-old imagination. For me, TALES felt like a dark companion to AMAZING STORIES, and I eagerly looked forward to watching it every week. Prior to the series' debut, it managed to shock and frighten my nine-year-old sister... based solely on a picture of The Crypt Keeper that appeared on the cover of the local Star Newspaper's TV Guide knockoff. Those who recall the early days of the series might remember that The Crypt Keeper was initially a bit creepier - only to become more cartoony as time went on. That fear of The Crypt Keeper stuck around and became a running joke into adulthood, so when I found myself in Las Vegas on Halloween 2009 with actor John Kassir - the voice of The Crypt Keeper - I couldn't resist making an odd request: a phone call to my sister for The Crypt Keeper to say "hello." It happened, and she hung up. What brings that anecdote back to life today? It's the Shout! Factory Blu-ray re-issue of the two classic TALES FROM THE CRYPT movies that followed the HBO series and jumped into theaters. TALES FROM THE CRYPT Presents DEMON KNIGHT and BORDELLO OF BLOOD are today's entry into 31 Days of Halloween here on THE ROCK FATHER Magazine. Fun Fact: I still have the original 5-track Soundtrack Promo from DEMON KNIGHT, which featured MEGADETH, MACHINE HEAD, MINISTRY, BIOHAZARD and GRAVEDIGGAZ!
