It's no secret that my favorite band of all-time is FAITH NO MORE. Founded in 1982, the band had a few different people on the mic before locking in with Chuck Mosley, who would be the voice of the band for their first two albums - 1985's WE CARE A LOT and 1987's INTRODUCE YOURSELF. While the band would find greater success after replacing Mosley with Mike Patton in 1989, the first two albums set the stage for what would become - genre-bending pieces of art that had a sound all their own. Mosley's vocals are unmistakably indicative of that early era of FNM, and several of the songs he sung have become timeless, remaining in the band's set list for decades beyond his work. Today, Chuck Mosley has died, and unfortunately his death is tied to the very thing that's long-been cited as a principal cause for his removal from his most famous band: addiction. R.I.P. David Bowie (1947-2016)

Just two days following his birthday and the release of his critically-acclaimed new album, BLACKSTAR, the legendary DAVID BOWIE has died. The news came in just hours ago, with a message posted by his family to his facebook and twitter at 10:30pm on Sunday night. "David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer," it read. "While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief." While the various branches of his genre-bending career in music, film and art carry different significance for different people, for me it's always been about the music of Bowie. In fact, my very first Bowie memory is 1983's "Let's Dance," the title track from an album that spawned a video that stands among my first memories of being a 7-year-old kid watching MTV...

It's unfortunate timing, but yesterday afternoon while attending Christmas #5 at my wife's uncle's house, I was discussing my attendance at Chicago's Riot Fest this year, and the performance by MOTÖRHEAD. This led to a discussion about who was original in the band, and my words now haunt me - "It's Lemmy's band, so as long as he's there, it's MOTÖRHEAD. Once Lemmy's gone, so is the band." Lemmy died today, at home, of cancer - this bringing to an end a year in which Ian Fraser "Lemmy" Kilmister struggled with health issues while continuing to soldier on in the name of all things rock and roll. In Memoriam: SCOTT WEILAND (1967-2015)

It was January 30, 1993. I was the 16-year-old host of a cable access show in Davenport, Iowa called "ZTV," and there I stood in the cold with my friend Scott, awaiting someone to open the back doors of the Palmer Auditorium. Holding our video gear, we were at the Palmer with the purpose of my interviewing MEGADETH frontman Dave Mustaine as the band was then in the midst of their COUNTDOWN TO EXTINCTION Tour. The opening act was a little-known crew that hardly matched the metal of  Megadeth, but they had just hit the scene and were blowing up with a single and video called "Sex Type Thing" from their debut album, CORE. That band was STONE TEMPLE PILOTS.

R.I.P. WAYNE STATIC of STATIC-X (1965-2014)

Well this is unexpected and sad. WAYNE STATIC has died. My friend Tom George (with whom I've been doing a fitness challenge) has been handling Wayne's PR via FiXT Publicity, and issued the following statement:

I'd only met Dave Brockie a couple of times, and aside from one occasion where I was feeding him questions on the other end of a video webcast with he in New York and I in Chicago, he was in full costume, portraying the character for which he will forever be known - Oderus Urungus, the 43 billion year-old frontman of Antarctica-based metal titans, GWAR. While public perception of what GWAR is or is not may vary, I've always known the band to be highly-skilled, expert musicians and showmen (and women, on occasion) that performed a mix of entertaining metal and killer satire that was always influenced by the Global landscape of politics and pop culture of the time. I was shocked and saddened to find a note from GWAR manager Jack Flanagan sitting atop my inbox this morning...
