Fellow "Rock Father" and long goatee enthusiast Leo Moracchioli can do no wrong as far as I'm concerned. The owner of Norway's Frog Leap Studios continues to crank out the creatively-crafted metal covers and accompanying videos each week, and this week he's come upon something very important to me... The Muppet Show. Heard at the beginning of The Muppet Show during its original run from 1976-1981, The Muppet Show Theme Song is an iconic piece of the Jim Henson legacy, and 40+ years later it's still finding new life. While Ok Go's version might be the most famous cover thus far, Leo's version brings the heavy to the scene. Watch the video and crank it up!
I've mentioned Jim Henson’s EMMET OTTER’S JUG-BAND CHRISTMAS many times in the past, if only because it's one of my all-time favorite holiday specials - one that I watched on HBO more times than I could count as a child. Now comes news that it's coming back to DVD on October 10 (pre-order via Amazon) from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment as a 40th Anniversary Edition, fully-remastered for a new generation.
Another one of my childhood favorites is coming back, as Disney has begun production on a reimagined "Muppet Babies" television series, which chronicles the playroom antics of the beloved Kermit the Frog, Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo, Animal and Miss Nanny. A co-production between Disney Junior, Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media's (DCPI) Content & Media group, and The Muppets Studio, the CG-animated series is slated to debut on Disney Junior in early 2018.
On March 1 at 8pm ET/PT on ABC, JACK WHITE & WILLIE NELSON will pay a visit to THE MUPPETS in the special one-hour, two-episode First Season Finale. With more drama between Miss Piggy and Kermit following a stint in the hospital, the duo reevaluates their relationship (as they do quite often), but this time Kermit turns to the former WHITE STRIPES frontman for some much-needed help and advice. Check out the teaser poster below.
When Kermit the Frog tweeted that he'd asked DR. TEETH AND THE ELECTRIC MAYHEM for a new song to release on Christmas Day, he noted that in "typical fashion, it's a day late." So, in typical Rock Father fashion, I'm sharing it here 16 days late(r). The Electric Mayhem's cover of Paul Simon's "Kodachrome" is an appropriate song for the Instagram generation - one in which clear digital photos are regularly filtered to achieve that vintage look. While ABC's THE MUPPETS is on hiatus until February, perhaps we'll see more rock from Dr. Teeth, Floyd Pepper, Animal, Janice, Zoot and Lips at some point in the near future.
It's odd for a new toy announcement to land in my inbox at 11:15 on a Friday night, but the folks at Diamond Select Toys hit me with a new product listing tonight that had a few things to pique my interest. The main one, however is the reveal of Muppets Minimates Series 2, set for release in the summer of 2016. Thing is, I somehow missed the announcement that there was a Series 1 slated for spring... or the fact that Muppets Action Figures should be arriving around May. Yes, ABC's MUPPETS is a growing hit at this point, but Kermit and the gang are timeless - and not since the fabled Palisades Toys line of the early 2000's (mine currently being played with by The Rock Daughters) has there been this much Muppets excitement in toy form.
