As many of you likely know from reading this website, being nicknamed "The Rock Father" comes from my long-standing ties to the music world. I still direct/edit the occasional music video, and this weekend there's a new one to share - "Revolution of Destruction" by PRODUCT OF HATE.  The song comes from their Napalm Records debut album, Buried in Violence, and is tied to the one-year anniversary of that album's release. Check it out below...

After a few years in-the-making, there's a new music doc on the digital outlets right now, and one worth checking out for anyone looking for an inside look at the lives of the touring musician. Featuring interviews and performances by members of The Sword, Grizfolk, David Ramirez, Def Leppard, Nine Inch Nails, Taking Back Sunday, Limp Bizkit, Weezer and more, Long Way To The Top "takes you on the road with professional musicians to look at the highs and lows of living the dream." Check out the trailer and details below...

Written by

After just announcing that they're releasing a limited-edition Wardance Craft Beer through New York's Butternuts Brewery, now comes news that Anthrax will release a limited edition For All Kings 7" Vinyl Box Set. Available exclusively in North America and released in conjunction with the band's upcoming Spring co-headline tour with Killswitch Engage, the set goes on sale March 24 and will retail for $79.99. Check out drummer Charlie Benante doing an unboxing below...

Love 'em or hate 'em, NICKELBACK are an unstoppable force, and after releasing a new single and lyric video earlier today (nearly 200K views in under 12 hours), the band has announced their Feed the Machine Tour - a North American trek produced exclusively by Live Nation. The 44-date run will feature Daughtry supporting for all U.S. dates, as well as Toronto and Montreal, while Shaman’s Harvest will be seen on all dates.  Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame icons, Cheap Trick, will be special guests for the western Canadian leg of the tour.  New music and dates below...

We're in a new era, and no matter who you supported in the last Presidential election, the result is undeniable: The world is a very different place post-1/20/2017 than it was before. This is where we're at. We've been moving toward it for years, but now, The United States of America is home to scenes that were once thought of as symbols of the Third World. Protests. Riots. Fire in the the streets. Racial hatred. Political animosity. Terrorist attacks - it's all here, and it didn't happen overnight. As I was preparing to pen another throwback post for a new "Rewind" column, it hit me that Sepultura's 1993 album, Chaos A.D., essentially describes where we're at right now. Written by a band from Brazil - known for the tales of "Third World Chaos," the reality that they were living made its way into the lyrics of Max Cavalera and Co. - words that are frighteningly on-point to the United States in 2017. If "Refuse/Resist" is the anthem, then "Territory" is the warning. And lest we forget "Propaganda" and "Slave New World." If you've heard the album, it's worth revisiting. If you haven't, indulge yourself and make sure to have the lyrics for the entire record handy.  Here's two to get you started...

The eleventh of January welcomed the return of the most rad thing to do on hump day night, Soundcheck Live at Lucky Strike. On parade every Wednesday, Soundcheck Live, at Hollywood & Highland, offers a rotating platform for artists of all musical divinations to give unique interpretations of the music that shaped them.

The National Association of Music Merchants is best-known for their annual January trade show, one that most people simply refer to as "NAMM." Over the years, the annual gathering of musical instrument and gearmakers to meet with retailers has become a music industry reunion of sorts. The show has expanded into a place where your favorite artists will likely be signing, legendary after parties and concerts will rock the Anaheim area, all while promoting the latest in gear for the year to come. For 2017, perhaps the best video I've seen to come out of the NAMM show comes from one of my favorite cover artists on YouTube - Leo Moracchioli of Frog Leap Studios. He's a fellow "Rock Father" (check out his version of "Let it Go" from FROZEN, or Taylor Swift's "Shake it Off"), and for NAMM 2017 he made the trek to California from his home in Norway for a collaboration with some of the best guitarists on YouTube. Check out their version of the Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Californication."

Two things I love: guitars and pizza. Apparently, Zakk Wylde also feels the same way, because if this new video is to be believed, his new line of guitars from Wylde Audio are, in fact, forged from the fires of his mighty Pizza Oven O'Doom. If you've ever wondered where guitars come from - specifically, where Zakk's Wylde Audio guitars come from, check out this helpful video that details the magical building process, and the power of Tree

PIXIES Announce North American Tour Dates...

Written by

Pixies, one of the most influential alt/rock bands of all time, will take their signature aural mix of psychedelia, dissonance, surf-rock and loud-quiet-loud on a five-week tour across North America in 2017, the first of a three-leg trek across the continent.  Following stops in Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and the band's first-ever South African concerts, the North American tour will launch at the Fox Theatre in Pomona, CA on Friday, April 21, and will see the band playing theatres and open-air venues.  There will be several special ticket pre-sales prior to the general on-sale which will begin this Friday, January 27 at 10AM local time.  Log on to www.pixiesmusic.com for all pre-sale and general onsale purchasing details.

After attending Wizard World events for nearly two decades, including a couple as a creator/guest myself, I've always wondered why they didn't formally start including music into their mix. After all, there's been many artists that have appeared at their events, including Static-X, Twiztid and Insane Clown Posse - all promoting comic titles. Last year, Wizard World Music tested the waters for bigger things, with performances by Grimes and The Pretty Reckless, and today comes news that Wizard World Touring has launched in partnership with veteran music and technology executive Nick Turner. The new unit "will bring vibrant live entertainment to Wizard World shows, building on the Wizard’s initiative to create an atmosphere of a weekend festival at every Wizard World show." First up: a club tour by KISS frontman (and no stranger to comics) Gene Simmons, complete with appearances at five Wizard World Comic Con events.

IRON MAIDEN Returns to North America with GHOST...

Written by

As I sit here in my office at Rock Father HQ, there's a few bottles of Robinson's Iron Maiden Trooper Beer - regular, the sold-out "Trooper 666," and the new "Red 'N' Black" Porter (which I haven't tried yet) in the cooler nearby. Is it wrong to want a sip at 8:30am? That's sorta where I'm at right now as news just hit my inbox that IRON MAIDEN is bringing The Book Of Souls World Tour back to North America for an extensive series of arena and amphitheater shows in summer 2017. After kicking off a string of 14 sold-out shows in the U.S. and Canada last February, the tour spawned a further 58 concerts in 34 other countries around the globe. Now, the tour returns - and with one of my favorite current bands in direct support: GHOST.

Just last week, I'd been listening to The Lonely Island here at Rock Father HQ, and it hit me that their breakthrough viral hit, "Lazy Sunday," was already 12 years old. As I tend to do on occasion, I followed The Lonely Island down the rabbit hole and re-watched their classic SNL Digital Shorts, followed by binging on the three full-length albums that preceded last year's soundtrack to Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping. Today, for no apparent reason (aside from it being awesome), The Lonely Island's YouTube Channel sprang to life for the first time in five months, posting a live performance of "Lazy Sunday" from Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, one that originally aired on March 8, 2010. Check it out below!
