Somewhere deep in the heart of Finland, STEVE "N" SEAGULLS is likely in a barn, hard-at-work on their next great folk-fueled metal cover. Having just completed the "hillbillification" of over a dozen classics from the likes of PANTERA, DIO, AC/DC and GUNS 'N ROSES, the band has been getting into the video realm pretty hard - the latest arriving this week in the form of "Run to the Hills." Indeed, the legendary IRON MAIDEN cut can be heard below... and seen... performed in a barn. There's also at least one reindeer pulling a sleigh. I think it might be Sven from FROZEN...

On June 16, the acclaimed documentary, THE WRECKING CREW comes home on DVD and Blu-ray from Magnolia Pictures. After finally settling in on a new location, Chicago's RIOT FEST & CARNIVAL will take place in Douglas Park, September 11-13, 2015. Tonight comes the much-anticipated First Wave Lineup Announcement for this year's fest, which boasts some big surprises, and like year's past, features some bands performing seminal albums in their entirety. RIOT FEST might be Chicago's "second biggest music festival," but it's the only one that I care about - and FAITH NO MORE (who revealed their appearance during their recent Chicago stop) would be all that I needed to be on-board, but look at this lineup! THE ROCK-AFIRE EXPLOSION is gonna be there - the house band of ShowBiz Pizza, who I've written about multiple times! And the first wave of bands for 2015 are...

It's a brief clip, but if you've ever wondered what kind of insight into parenting and fatherhood could be offered by METALLICA frontman and father of three, JAMES HETFIELD, today is your day. In Part 4 of their "Up-Close with James Hetfield" video series, the folks at Road Recovery get a few words from James about finding the right balance in how he handles his children, and how "being in the middle" could be the hardest place of all...

It's happened again... and this time the stage is being punny. Last night, as U2 kicked-off their iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE Tour at The Rogers Arena in Vancouver, the stage played a sinister joke on guitarist THE EDGE by bending light to trick the axe-slinger into falling from the edge of one of the lighted runways. Thankfully, the 53-year-old David Howell Evans emerged largely unscathed from the attack, continuing the performance just a bit banged-up. The stage has since been put on written warning, and will be replaced should its deviant actions continue. See the evidence below...

Last night, FAITH NO MORE made their first U.S. television appearance in nearly two decades, making their return with a triumphant performance of "Superhero" on LATE NIGHT WITH JIMMY FALLON. It was an appropriate place to make a National return, with FNM making previous NBC appearances on SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE (1990, "Epic" and "From Out of Nowhere"), THE TONIGHT SHOW with JAY LENO (1993, "Midlife Crisis" and "Easy"), and  LATE NIGHT with CONAN O'BRIEN (1995, "Ricochet"), on which they even did a skit. Check out last night's appearance in the clips below, and look for FAITH NO MORE's SOL INVICTUS, in-stores next week!

This past Thursday night, I felt as if I were 15 again. My wife and I attended the sold-out FAITH NO MORE concert at Chicago's Concord Music Hall, where Riot Fest presented the return of FAITH NO MORE to the Windy City. For those of you that read this site regularly, you may already know that if not for my first-ever interview with FNM back in 1992 during the ANGEL DUST Tour, it's entirely possible that my life could've taken an entirely different path. Now, 18 years after their previous release, ALBUM OF THE YEAR, the band is back with SOL INVICTUS, their first effort since re-forming in 2009. Today, NPR is streaming the album in-full, one week ahead of it's May 19 release here in the United States. Check it out via the embedded player below...

While STAR WARS Day is officially over, a lot of people like to carry things into May 5th each year by switching "May the Fourth Be With You" into "Revenge of the Fifth," so let's roll with that for a second. My boys from PRODUCT OF HATE (NAPALM Records) recently wrapped their first North American Tour, which found them on the road with ALLEGAEON (Metal Blade). Since the tour wrapped, ALLEGAEON guitarist Greg Burgess has been posting some pretty impressive one-take videos on Facebook, and yesterday's found him celebrating STAR WARS Day with a full suite of John Williams' famous score pieces performed on classical acoustic guitar. There's the "STAR WARS Main Title (Theme)," "Binary Sunset," "Cantina Band," "Imperial March," "Parade of the Ewoks," and the "Throne Room/End Title" in there. Check it out..

Funk. Yep, catch me when the time is right, and I very well might be "The Funk Father." I've always had an affection for proper 70s funk and soul - even trying to work some of those grooves into my own jams back in that strange time called "The 1990s." My Dunlop Cry Baby Wah Wah pedal got a workout in those days, and while most of what I did went in some weird punky-metal direction, my own musical schizophrenia diversity has always led me to enjoy many types of music, despite "rock" being home base. One band I've dug comes straight out of Dayton, Ohio, and there's a good chance that even if you don't know THE OHIO PLAYERS, you'll recognize their music - hits like "Fire" and "Love Rollercoaster" (covered in '96 by THE RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS). Now, four of the original Ohio Players (Drummer James ‘Diamond’ Williams, Keyboardist Billy Beck, Guitarist Clarence ‘Chet’ Willis and Percussionist Robert ‘Kuumba’ Jones) are back in the studio working on a new record with an energized line-up and they're seeking some crowdfunding help to make it happen. Check out the details on the new album, RESET below, along with The Ohio Players' IndieGoGo pitch...

Musicians falling. It happens... and a lot of times it's funny, and people just laugh it off. Several years back, I used to do a feature called "When Stages Attack!" on another site, and it gained a lot of traction, and everyone took it in stride. At one point, Motley Crue's Nikki Sixx even crashed that site by sending his Facebook fans to his own feature - and now Facebook is largely the key platform for sharing Stage Attack videos, many of which originate via Instagram and YouTube. Since it's happening again (the Stages are relentless), I think it's time to bring back that feature, and I'm starting it with Sebastian Bach, who was attacked by the stage at Beverly Hills' Saban Theatre on April 19th.
