It's time to step into what my wife calls my "Old Crankypants" mode...

Coachella. The buzzed-about festival that's now spread into a two-weekend affair of duplicate entertainment in the California desert has unveiled their 2015 lineup, and as usual - it's not enough to sell me on a trip out there for it. In fact, the only time I ever truly considered a trip to the Empire Polo Grounds was when FAITH NO MORE made an appearance there back in 2010, but even an appearance by my favorite band of all-time couldn't lure me to the West Coast for a weekend. As this year's announcement rolled out, I heard more than a few folks on the radio say the same thing today "I don't know who these people are, they must be new bands" - aside from the obvious ones, like AC/DC. But if you work in music and truly claim to not know anyone else on the list, I find that very hard to believe since the other headliners include JACK WHITE and DRAKE, and the second-liners have folks like STEELY DAN and FLORENCE + THE MACHINE on there. For me, the problem with Coachella is something that's infected other festivals like our own, now-local Lollapalooza - I personally just don't care about 90% of the lineup. So who actually matters at Coachella 2015? I'll give you my picks below, followed by the full lineup to see what your thoughts are...

Happy New Year 2015: Here's MxPx rocking "Auld Lang Syne"

Written by

As we enter 2015, there's a lot of celebration going on right now. For me, it's looking forward to another great year with my wife and our girls, and on the work front, another year of putting forth some fun content for families right here on THE ROCK FATHER. As the ball drops in NYC and the poppers go off and send the confetti flying, it's a 100% certainty that the familiar sound of "Auld Lang Syne" will be playing for many. While it's a song that I've never really cared for, there is a version that I like, and it's a perfect way to close the books on 2014 here at Rock Father HQ. Crank up the speakers and hit the player below for the MxPx version of "Auld Lang Syne" from their 2009 album, PUNK RAWK CHRISTMAS. If you dig it, you can support the band and buy it directly from them via Bandcamp for just a buck. Happy New Year!

On March 24, 2015, Chicago's THE BLOODLINE will release their debut album, WE ARE ONE via Another Century, the recently-announced imprint of Century Media. Today the official announcement came down alongside the first album trailer, both of which can be found below.

And the 2015 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Inductees are...

Written by

It's official. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced the eight artists that will be inducted into the Hall of Fame for 2015, narrowed from a field of 15 nominees that were announced this past October. Making the cut this year are RINGO STARR, LOU REED, BILL WITHERS, THE '5' ROYALES, THE PAUL BUTTERFIELD BLUES BAND, STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN and DOUBLE TROUBLE, and the one that makes me take note of getting older, GREEN DAY. Take a look at what the Rock Hall has to say about each of the eight inductees below, right here on THE ROCK FATHER...

Napalm Records signs PRODUCT OF HATE...

Written by

Napalm RecordsThis is a very special announcement for THE ROCK FATHER... since 2010, I have been proud to Co-Manage PRODUCT OF HATE, but above all, they're my friends and brothers. Today the real adventure begins...

Hailing from the Kenosha, Wisconsin area, PRODUCT OF HATE have been crafting their vicious blend of groove, thrash, and new-wave metal for the past few years. Sharing the stage with some of the biggest bands in metal including TESTAMENT, LAMB OF GOD, GWAR, CHIMAIRA, UNEARTH, MESHUGGAH, JOB FOR A COWBOY & LAZARUS A.D.  PRODUCT OF HATE is now set to take on the world.

Given how big a Global cultural phenomenon it's become, it's almost hard to imagine that it was just one year ago today - November 27, 2013 - that Walt Disney Animation Studios' FROZEN first hit theaters. A year out, and FROZEN has officially toppled Barbie to be the biggest doll line (with MONSTER HIGH close behind), has inspired countless YouTube videos, parodies and tributes - and has managed to sell over three million Elsa dresses (at least one to me). Out of all the films I could've done a press trip for, I was fortunate to be included in the group of writers to visit Walt Disney Animation Studios to help promote the first home video release of FROZEN earlier this year, and now seems like a perfect time to do a recap - this being the first anniversary of the forever-classic - along with five of the best ROCK cover versions of "Let It Go," the iconic song that has made Idina Menzel a household name. Ready to "Let It Go" again?

It looks like AC/DC may have been playing a goof when the released the ultra-low budget video for "Play Ball" earlier this month, drawing the ire of fans around the Globe. The iconic rockers have just unleashed the proper video for "Rock or Bust," the title track from their forthcoming new album, and the video - like the song itself - is pure, vintage AC/DC. While I've got that embedded here on THE ROCK FATHER for your viewing pleasure, you can stream the entire album right now for free on iTunes First Play

MANCHESTER ORCHESTRA is doing a few U.S. dates for the next week, but then they head down under with a run of dates where Kevin Devine will be supporting. So, what better way to kick-off the upcoming tour than to team-up for a cover song of epic proportions? That's just what Manchester's Andy Hull and Kevin Devine did when they recorded one of the greatest tunes from the 20th Century songbook, Will Smith's theme song to THE FRESH PRINCE OF BEL-AIR...

If you haven't seen or heard what Anthony Vincent does with his TEN SECOND SONGS series on YouTube, you've got some viewing to do. After tackling LINKIN PARK and KATY PERRY, JASON DERULO and ARIANA GRANDE in videos that have become certified viral hits, Vincent has put his skill to work on MICHAEL JACKSON'S THRILLER - released this week, just in-time to make it into this year's 31 Days of Halloween here on THE ROCK FATHER. Performed in 20 different vocal and musical styles, Vincent shifts seamlessly from OINGO BOINGO to TYPE O NEGATIVE, CANNIBAL CORPSE to THE MISFITS, TOM WAITS to JACKSON himself and more. Check it out...

13 years ago, DROWNING POOL released SINNER, their breakthrough album - the one from which "Bodies" came forth. The anthemic single has become their signature song, and one oft-used in other media from soundtracks and commercials (FRIDAY THE 13th sequel, JASON X) to events like WWE SummerSlam. To celebrate the (un)lucky 13th, the band will release a 2-Disc Anniversary Edition of the album on November 11, but for 31 Days of Halloween, "Bodies" makes an appearance here on THE ROCK FATHER in an all-new Zombie-themed lyric video. Crank it up!

I've always imagined that every time the members of OK Go sit down to brainstorm a new music video, one of them throws down a pencil and curses their 2005 treadmill-hopping clip for "Here It Goes Again" (I played that a ton on ROCK BAND) as the piece that started them down an elaborate path that grows more complex with each new album. The latest in their string of continuous-take videos is for "I Won't Let You Down," the second single from their recently-released album, HUNGRY GHOSTS. Check it out below...

Watch: Documentary Trailer for R.E.M. by MTV Arrives...

Written by

On November 24, Rhino will release REMTV, a six-disc DVD collection culled from the vaults of MTV - an outlet that unintentionally became a major partner for R.E.M. throughout their career. As part of the set, Alexander Young has crafted a feature-length documentary, R.E.M. by MTV, the trailer for which was just released today. In addition to appearing on the box set, the doc will also debut simultaneously on Palladia and VH1 Classic on November 22. Check it out below, right here on THE ROCK FATHER...
