Shelley Wollert is back as "Elska," the Icelandic Musical Pioneer who is said to have discovered a new island of volcanic rock while traveling by iceberg. For her newest electro-pop jam (available on iTunes now), Elska is teamed with WILCO's Mikael Jorgensen and long-time collaborator Allen Farmelo as they put forth a simple message: you don't need much. While I appreciate the sentiment and hope that my girls will one day identify with it (it's important to understand the difference between needs and wants), it's always weird to think of an anti-materialistic message while I'm sitting here in the confines of Rock Father HQ... where I often feel that we have "Too Much Junk." Check out the new video below!
It's very appropriate to see bands like INFORMATION SOCIETY regrouping and returning to their roots... hearing how many current "alternative" acts have just been aping the 1980s new wave and electronic movements without due credit. Ahead of their summer 2014 album, _HELLO WORLD, Paul Robb (synths), Kurt Larson (vocals) and James Cassidy (bass, keyboards) will be releasing a new single called "Land of the Blind" on March 4 (via HAKATAK International), but you can check out the lyric video today, right here on THE ROCK FATHER...
The crew over at Astralwerks hit The Rock Father with the news that they've just signed German five-piece, CLAIRE. The band will release the BROKEN PROMISE LAND EP on September 24, but prior to that they'll release their first single, "Games" on August 13. The two-track digital single will also feature a new remix by I HEART SHARKS. Those that want an early taste can snag a FREE DOWNLOAD of their song "Pioneers" via Facebook, and check out the video for "Games" below.
Los Angeles-based producer/performer AUDREY NAPOLEON recently released a video for her track "Dope A La Mode," which features SEMI PRECIOUS WEAPONS vocalist Justin Tranter as her husband. To celebrate the official release of that track through SWE Music, Audrey is serving up a FREE DOWNLOAD of the single through July 9th. Check out the video and grab the track below.
I dig ZARDONIC quite a bit. The masked "Bass Metal" specialist released VULGAR DISPLAY OF BASS last year, and this year he's following it up with a remix album (and another PANTERA nod), FAR BEYOND BASS - THE VULGAR REMIXES. To celebrate the forthcoming release (date TBA), Zardonic is offering up a FREE DOWNLOAD of "Bring Back the Glory (210 Mix)" featuring Germany's Voicians. The track can be streamed in the player below, right here on The Rock Father... and downloaded via Zardonic's Facebook page.
This is pretty interesting... yesterday (a Saturday), KMFDM posts a Facebook update that reads "Brand-new KMFDM video here." The video in question is for "I Heart Not," a track from their newly-released album, KUNST. On the YouTube page, the video is clearly-labeled "KMFDM - 'I Heart Not' Official Video." It's even watermarked with the relevant info (artist/label/album/director). Fans on the Facebook page start panning the video, and all-of-a-sudden the public statistics and comments on YouTube are deleted, then turned off. Four hours later, KMFDM posts another Facebook update with another new video along with the following text: "Another brand new KMFDM video, like the one posted earlier it has had no input from us, they were made uncalled for by people that are into our music. Much appreciated !!" Sure it is.
