Fellow "Rock Father" and long goatee enthusiast Leo Moracchioli can do no wrong as far as I'm concerned. The owner of Norway's Frog Leap Studios continues to crank out the creatively-crafted metal covers and accompanying videos each week, and this week he's come upon something very important to me... The Muppet Show. Heard at the beginning of The Muppet Show during its original run from 1976-1981, The Muppet Show Theme Song is an iconic piece of the Jim Henson legacy, and 40+ years later it's still finding new life. While Ok Go's version might be the most famous cover thus far, Leo's version brings the heavy to the scene. Watch the video and crank it up!
I don't often do the HIGH FIDELITY-style "Top Five" lists, but I do know who my Top Five Musical Artists of All-Time are. These bands are ones that are always in the daily rotation, and today comes a big surprise - that two of my top five are going on a co-headline tour this spring. HELMET & PRONG. Both bands came up in NYC, bursting from the CBGB scene, and when I saw each of them live for the first time, it was in a location far from... Davenport, Iowa in the early 90s. Since then, I've seen each many times, in several cities, with both bands going through numerous lineup changes. Check out the official announcement below!
On March 23, 2018, JOHNNY “CHOPS” RICHARDSON will release his sophomore album, JOHNNY CHOPS AND THE RAZORS (pre-order now via Pledge Music). Currently on-tour as a member of the Randy Rogers Band (his "day job"), Johnny's been filling the gaps in the schedule by releasing new singles and videos, while looking ahead to a busy year on the road. THE ROCK FATHER™ Magazine recently caught up with Johnny to get an overview of where he's been and where he's headed, along with an early listen to some new songs from JOHNNY CHOPS AND THE RAZORS!
Just for the record, it is 2018. I know it might be a little bit confusing at times, and since this past week has brought us news on the return of Murphy Brown, The Greatest American Hero, Charmed and the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers, I have something else to go with another bit of news that just hit my inbox - some new colors of Tamagotchi are shipping now (seriously). Darrin Kenneth O’Brien, the Canadian reggae-rapper better-known as SNOW, is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the release of “INFORMER” with a new recording of the 1993 hit. "Informer 2018 (Audiofreaks Mix)" was just released on all digital platforms via Radikal Records, and you can stream it now in the Soundcloud player below...
Over the years, despite having enormous respect for the band, I've not usually considered myself a big fan of MACHINE HEAD - more of a casual one. My favorite album by them is THE BURNING RED, which tends to get knocked as being a blight on their back catalogue - but it's the one I fall back on. Now, as their their new album CATHARSIS approaches, I've found myself revisiting their past works thanks to Spotify, and enjoying them more than ever, while at the same time loving each new track released from CATHARSIS. Now comes a new one, with "Kaleidoscope" taking things pretty literally on the visual front. Check it out below, and look for the new record on January 26th via Nuclear Blast Entertainment.
Legendary Bay Area metallers, SKINLAB, today announce the return of longtime guitarist Steve Green, best-known to fans as Snake! The news comes ahead of the band’s first live activities of 2018, the Brothers in Blood Tour featuring PISSING RAZORS and SHATTERED SUN (updated itinerary below).
