51CQoUiWVCL. SL160 Canadian tech-metallers NEURAXIS last hit the scene with their 2008 release THE THIN LINE BETWEEN. Since that time, their last founding member has moved on, but the band itself remains the same, serving up another batch of songs that will be far more impressive to fellow musicians than to the public at large.

As I've noted in the past, "technical metal" holds little appeal for my ears, as rapid guitar masturbation is something easily found at any Guitar Center on a Saturday afternoon. If I want to hear a new spin on some old scales played at hyperspeed, I can easily go hear it there for free instead of paying for it. By now I sound like a broken record on this, but "great playing does not equal quality songwriting," and that's where NEURAXIS falls in-line with ASYLON.

Those that enjoy the tech genre or are already fans of the band will dig the hell out of their latest offering. For those wishing to hear songs that don't feel crammed together? Keep wishing, though do check out the song that's simply entitled "V" - it's badass.

Rating: 3/5
