What a great way to start the week... FAITH NO MORE have just unleashed the second single from their forthcoming SOL INVICTUS (out May 19 on Reclamation/Ipecac), and they picked the perfect partner to do it with - MARVEL. "Superhero" popped up over on MARVEL.com yesterday, racking up over 107K streams for the song in just 24 hours - a welcome feat for a band that hasn't released an album since 1997. The track debut came alongside Ryan Penagos' interview with FNM Bassist Bill Gould (read it) in which some serious love for Jack Kirby and the Silver Surfer are thrown down.  Check out the track, and keep on reading below...

If you're a regular reader of this site, then you probably already know that FAITH NO MORE is not only my favorite band of all-time, but essentially the reason why I am who I am today. With their first album since 1997's ALBUM OF THE YEAR confirmed last September, today comes the official title, release date and tracklisting. On May 19, FAITH NO MORE will release SOL INVICTUS via Reclamation Recordings/Ipecac Recordings. The release will arrive just days after wrapping up their first U.S. Tour in nearly 18 years - a tour I was lucky enough to snag tickets for during a much-frenzied pre-sale window. Check out the SOL INVICTUS tracklisting below, right here on THE ROCK FATHER...

This is the news I've been waiting for since FAITH NO MORE first reunited for their "Second Coming" shows that began in 2009...

FAITH NO MORE have announced their first North American Tour since 1997, and it's happening this April/May. At long last, the band will return to Chicago for a date at Concord Music Hall (5/7), and one way or another, I will be there. For those of you unfamiliar, not only is FNM my favorite band of all-time, but had it not been for them, my life could've taken an entirely different path. The reason? FAITH NO MORE were the first band to ever grant me an interview, and it happened back in 1992 when I was just 15 years old. In addition to the tour, the next single from their forthcoming new album has been revealed, with "Superhero" due out as a limited-edition 7" single on March 17, followed by a digital release on March 31...

THE ROCK FATHERAs I decided to resurrect my old "Random Rock" Column this week, I started looking at the news in my inbox and having flashbacks to a pre-email era. MELVINS... ALICE IN CHAINS... HARVEY DANGER... REVEREND HORTON HEAT? Was it 1997 again? I say that in jest, of course, since I love all of those bands.

Below, you'll find rapid-fire updates on those artists and more, right here on THE ROCK FATHER.

PALMS - "Palms" (Album Review)

palmscoverI don't have a definitive reason as to "why," but despite being a massive fan of the DEFTONES' early works, I have not purchased their last three studio albums (nor have I received digital promos). That places my last proper DEFTONES experience with their 2005 B-sides collection. While I've heard bits and pieces of their more contemporary works, as I said - I don't have a reason for the disconnect, but it certainly feels as if I've been unplugged from a band that I used to dig very much.  My reason for deliving into the DEFTONES' rabbit hole tonight comes courtesy of PALMS, and their self-titled debut that is set for release this coming Tuesday via one of my favorite labels for recorded sounds, Ipecac Recordings. PALMS is magical.

TOMAHAWK, the band featuring Mike Patton (FAITH NO MORE, FANTOMAS, MR. BUNGLE, a bunch of other cool bands), Duane Denison (JESUS LIZARD), John Stainer (ex-HELMET, BATTLES), and Trevor Dunn (MELVINS LITE, MR. BUNGLE, FANTOMAS) have set free the first sample of their forthcoming album, ODDFELLOWS (out January 29, 2013 via Ipecac).
