In Memoriam: SCOTT WEILAND (1967-2015)

It was January 30, 1993. I was the 16-year-old host of a cable access show in Davenport, Iowa called "ZTV," and there I stood in the cold with my friend Scott, awaiting someone to open the back doors of the Palmer Auditorium. Holding our video gear, we were at the Palmer with the purpose of my interviewing MEGADETH frontman Dave Mustaine as the band was then in the midst of their COUNTDOWN TO EXTINCTION Tour. The opening act was a little-known crew that hardly matched the metal of  Megadeth, but they had just hit the scene and were blowing up with a single and video called "Sex Type Thing" from their debut album, CORE. That band was STONE TEMPLE PILOTS.

Update: Weiland says he just did vocals for the album as a side project, and will not tour with this band.

Well this one came out of nowhere - SCOTT WEILAND, the former voice of both STONE TEMPLE PILOTS and VELVET REVOLVER is fronting a new band - this news coming on the heels of a solo tour and album as SCOTT WEILAND & THE WILDABOUTS. Below the jump you can check out a preview of ART OF ANARCHY, the new band featuring Weiland along with DISTURBED bassist Jon Moyer, GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Rob 'Bumblefoot' Thal, and brothers Jon and Vince Votta (guitar and drums)...

Judging from the hit-count on my blog posting yesterday that featured a 22-second snippet of a new SOUNDGARDEN song slated for inclusion on THE AVENGERS Soundtrack, I'd say interest in both the film and the band are pretty high. Well, earlier today, Disney sent over the full tracklisting for AVENGERS ASSEMBLE: Music From and Inspired by The Motion Picture. Additionally, The Rock Father has learned that the aforementioned SOUNGARDEN cut Live to Rise will be featured over the end credits of the film.  Check out the full tracklisting and all the artists below.

weilandxmasSTONE TEMPLE PILOTS frontman SCOTT WEILAND recently released a Christmas album, and there's quite a lot to say about it. Released for the 2011 Holiday season by Softdrive Records via Rhino, THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR is an interesting conversation piece that contains a couple decent renditions of classic tunes alongside some of the most... unique.

51frKruLxJL. SL160 When VELVET REVOLVER hit the scene in the early 2000's, many pegged them as a simple mashup between STONE TEMPLE PILOTS and GUNS N ROSES - and they were right. With Slash, Duff McKagan, and Matt Sorum checking in from the 'Guns camp, the band was fleshed out by guitarist Dave Kushner (Infectious Grooves, Wasted Youth) and fronted by STP frontman Scott Weiland.
