I don't know if there's ever been a definitive study to determine why rockabilly surf punk fits so well with monsters and ghouls, but it most certainly does. Perhaps the most famous example is Jack Marshall's "Munsters Theme," but here we are fifty years later and the jams just keep on coming - and the vibe has gone far beyond the beach, with guitarslingers around the globe breaking out those twangy riffs atop bouncing beats and low-end grooves. On Friday the 13th of October, 2017, Russian rockers MESSER CHUPS will release their latest album, Taste the Blood of Guitaracula - a mostly-instrumental collection of 16 songs perfect for the Halloween season. Ahead of its release, here's a look at the official video for "Midnight Call," along with "Chupacabra vs. Batman." Crank it up!

Having covered THE DIRTY HEADS at length on the last site I worked for, I've long-respected the band while not necessarily getting into them. Despite loving surf rock, I'm not a big 'beach' guy, and that's probably what kept them at a distance. I tend to skip the Jimmy Buffett and leave the Sublime with Rome to someone else. With the release of THE DIRTY HEADS' latest album, CABIN BY THE SEA (out now in standard and deluxe editions), something hit me and became very clear: their sun-drenched, beach-infused vibes are irresistible.

I enjoy some Surf Rock. I also enjoy SLAYER. Having been known to bust out 'Season's in the Abyss' on the acoustic guitar from time to time, when my pals from DIRGE WITHIN shared a link that combined Surf Rock with SLAYER - specifically 'Seasons, my head nearly exploded from the incredibly flavorful mix. The Rock Father loves to share the goods, so below the jump you'll find 'Surfin' with Slayer' - GLITTER DICK performing 'Seasons in the Abyss' like you've never seen it before. Listen closely and you might even catch a nod to Dick Dale in the mix...
