Back in 1989, HBO launched TALES FROM THE CRYPT - an anthology series that firmly captured my 12/13-year-old imagination. For me, TALES felt like a dark companion to AMAZING STORIES, and I eagerly looked forward to watching it every week. Prior to the series' debut, it managed to shock and frighten my nine-year-old sister... based solely on a picture of The Crypt Keeper that appeared on the cover of the local Star Newspaper's TV Guide knockoff. Those who recall the early days of the series might remember that The Crypt Keeper was initially a bit creepier - only to become more cartoony as time went on. That fear of The Crypt Keeper stuck around and became a running joke into adulthood, so when I found myself in Las Vegas on Halloween 2009 with actor John Kassir - the voice of The Crypt Keeper - I couldn't resist making an odd request: a phone call to my sister for The Crypt Keeper to say "hello." It happened, and she hung up. What brings that anecdote back to life today? It's the Shout! Factory Blu-ray re-issue of the two classic TALES FROM THE CRYPT movies that followed the HBO series and jumped into theaters. TALES FROM THE CRYPT Presents DEMON KNIGHT and BORDELLO OF BLOOD are today's entry into 31 Days of Halloween here on THE ROCK FATHER Magazine. Fun Fact: I still have the original 5-track Soundtrack Promo from DEMON KNIGHT, which featured MEGADETH, MACHINE HEAD, MINISTRY, BIOHAZARD and GRAVEDIGGAZ!

On July 31st, Shout! Factory will release THE SEVENTH DWARF in a limited theatrical engagement in New York and L.A., prior to a mass home video release on August 18th. The English-language version of last year's German film, Der 7bte Zwerg. Over the past few weeks, a variety of character profiles and clips have been rolling out for the film, but since none have been featured yet here on THE ROCK FATHER, tonight I'm serving up the trailer and a few clips in one handy playlist. There's some familiar elements at play here, with Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and of course, the seven dwarfs making an appearance. But the villain, Dellamorta, seems to have been a bit FROZEN-inspired. Peyton List (Disney's JESSIE and upcoming BUNK'D) and comic Norm McDonald top the voice cast. Take a peek...

As 2015 got started, practically everyone in children's media was declaring it "The Year of the Dinosaur." I'm sure that claim has been staked in previous years as well, but 2015 has already seen the arrival of POWER RANGERS DINO CHARGE, the DINOSAUR TRAIN keeps on rolling over at PBS KIDS, Disney•Pixar's THE GOOD DINOSAUR comes later this Fall, and the year promises the return to Jurassic Park with the Chris Pratt-starring JURASSIC WORLD. But, as I've written in the past - has there every really been a year when kids don't like Dinosaurs? GRIMLOCK has been leading the Dinobots in TRANSFORMERS adventures since roughly 1984, so when Shout! Factory sent us a copy of TRANSFORMERS RESCUE BOTS: JURASSIC ADVENTURE, my interest was piqued. But, there are no Dinobots here... despite an included episode bearing the title "Return of the Dino Bot." It's pun, and and episode we'd seen way back when on the late Hub Network - one in which a life-sized robotic Tyrannosaurus Rex began wreaking havoc on Griffin Rock. "True Dinobots" or not, any collection of RESCUE BOTS is still fine by me, and should be fine for just about anyone with preschoolers.
