I have never seen an episode of BREAKING BAD, but stories like this make me want to dig in on Netflix. "Florida Mom" Susan Schrivjer of Fort Myers raised all kinds of trouble this past week, going after Toys "R" Us (a store I love, despite their reward program being... not very rewarding) for carrying Mezco's BREAKING BAD action figures in their "adult collectibles" section. In a lot of ways, TRU is much akin to this very site - carrying toys "for all ages," kids to grownups alike. There's a HUGE market for "adult collectibles," and just this past week I spotted the aforementioned figures on the pegs while I was checking out Diamond Select's new Minimates based on Kevin Smith's CLERKS. After a back-and-forth in the media, Toys "R" Us has pulled the figures, and the $15-$30 toys are now fetching $100+ on the secondary market. If you were hoping to score a set, be patient, as specialty retailers like my associates at Entertainment Earth will soon be well-stocked with all the BREAKING BAD characters that you're looking for - including exclusives that even TRU didn't have.

NETFLIXOn January 1, 2015, NETFLIX is bringing you some FRIENDS. That's right, all ten seasons of the hit NBC series will be available for streaming right off the bat. I remember the primitive days, where I had to buy these bulky, DVD Box Sets of FRIENDS for my wife, who was a huge fan and couldn't deal with just the constant television reruns. Alas, instant commercial-free streaming is a glorious thing. This morning, Netflix made it all official with a special music video featuring Gunther and The Rembrandts, filmed live at the Central Perk pop-up store in NYC. Check it out...

The crew over at Shout! Factory is one of the most consistent when it comes to bringing pop culture home on Blu-ray and DVD. Through their Shout!, Shout! Kids and Scream Factory divisions, they've got titles for the whole family, and for August I'm doing something different - showing off highlights from their new release selection, from the kid-friendly POWER RANGERS to the horror of MOTEL HELL and classic television series' like NEWHART. Check out what's on deck for this month...

Is it too early to start thinking about Halloween? The correct answer to that is it's NEVER too early to be thinking about Halloween, and that's exactly what I'm thinking of now, as the folks at PBS Digital Studios in collaboration with Pemberley Digital have announced that they're putting a modern spin on the classic novel FRANKENSTEIN with their first scripted series, FRANKENSTEIN M.D. Three episodes will premiere on the PBS Digital Studios YouTube channel Tuesday, August 19, with the full run set to feature 24 episodes, each between five to eight minutes. New episodes will roll out weekly on Tuesday and Friday for 10 weeks, culminating in a dramatic Halloween finale on Friday, October 31.

It’s time to recast Jack Bauer. For nine seasons Kiefer Sutherland has portrayed Bauer perfectly. He has infused the character with heart and a determination that allowed him to inhabit this tragic character better than anyone could have foreseen. It's his career-defining role. One that he will be remembered for, and one that I hope he is truly proud of.

This is sort of interesting that this news landed here at Rock Father HQ when it did - a time when my oldest (not quite five) is in Theatre Camp for a "Broadway Beginners" production of ANNIE that wraps-up later this week. Interesting, because this is "Broadway on Screen," and starting June 23, Screenvision and Lincoln Center are bringing THE NANCE starring Nathan Lane to 300 screens Nationwide. Check out a preview...

This Tuesday, THE LEGO MOVIE (which we still have yet to see) will arrive on Blu-ray and DVD... But so will Wes Anderson's THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL... and the folks at Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment found a way to combine the two (though THE LEGO MOVIE is a Warner Bros. film). Ryan Ziegelbauer and his team of eight model builders – all die-hard fans of Wes Anderson – spent 575 hours building and designing a LEGO replica of the hotel. Check out the video below to learn more about it...

As Metro-Goldwyn-Meyer (MGM) & Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment continue celebrating the 90th Anniversary of MGM, they've teamed with La Boca to create a new series of iconic posters commemorating the studio. The second in the series represents Sergio Leone's THE MAN WITH NO NAME TRILOGY, which was just reissued on Blu-ray with more than five hours of special features – plus a NEWLY REMASTERED version of THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY. Check out the full poster below, right here on THE ROCK FATHER...

I keep getting reminders that I need an Xbox One. I loved DEAD RISING, then missed DEAD RISING 2, but when DEAD RISING 3 was announced... it was exclusive to the "next generation" system. Now there's this crazy new thing called Super Ultra Dead Rising 3 Arcade Remix Hyper Edition EX +α, a new DLC experience that adds to DEAD RISING 3 and features 35 original songs by composer Oleksa Lozowchuk and various artists including Traz Damji, QUAZR, Stu Goldberg and SKY 13. Want the soundtrack? Sumthing Else Music Works has made the official soundtrack album available as a free digital download exclusively at their official site.

Netflix Stream TeamVarèse Sarabande Records will release HOUSE OF CARDS: SEASON 2 – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack as a 2 disc set digitally and on CD June 17th. The soundtrack features original score composed by Jeff Beal (MONK, BLACKFISH).

Award-winning composer Jeff Beal scores HOUSE OF CARDS, the Emmy® and Golden Globe®-winning original series, starring Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright. The show debuted in February of 2013 as Netflix’s first original series, unprecedentedly releasing all 13 episodes of Season One at the same time, generating worldwide attention for the bold new approach to the television model.  The second season debuted in February of this year, and it was picked up for a third season

I honestly don't know if it's a fact, or just the way it seems, but I can't think of another decade that produced a comedic output on par with the 1980s - specifically on the cinematic front. From front-to-back, the 80s was stacked with comedies that have had lasting impact, been constantly imitated, and never really matched on a cultural scale. Perhaps it's because I was born in the 70s and grew up in the 80s, often finding myself experiencing movies for the first time on the small screen, in large part due to HBO, USA Up All Night, and whatever other channels I shouldn't have been watching at the time. REVENGE OF THE NERDS is one of those films, an R-rated affair that I, from a ratings standpoint, shouldn't have been allowed to see until the early 1990s... but I did, and it was glorious. Now, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has released the film on Blu-ray, just in time for it's 30th Anniversary.

Netflix Stream TeamOn June 6, Netflix will release the second season of their original series, ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK. Getting the hype train rolling, a series of new character posters have arrived online, and they should be popping up on bus shelters throughout the country very soon. You can check them out below, right here in the "For Grownups" section of THE ROCK FATHER, and be on the lookout for another batch to be issued later this week...
