Regular readers of The Rock Father know that I'm a sucker for pop culture - especially for the stuff I grew up on in the 80s. Now, the folks at Silva Screen Records have tapped into that again with the release of 100 GREATEST TV THEMES VOLUME 3, a four-disc, 100-track collection of songs ranging from the recent to the classic.  These are new recordings performed by The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, London Music Works and Michigan Music Works. Take a look at the tracklisting below...

Preview: INJUSTICE: GODS AMONG US - The Album...

Written by

On April 16 (this Tuesday), Warner Bros. and Netherworld Games will release INJUSTICE: GODS AMONG US, an epic fighting game set in the world of DC Comics. I've previously covered the game here on The Rock Father, and now comes news that Watertower Music will be releasing INJUSTICE: GODS AMONG US - THE ALBUM (pre-order on iTunes), a companion to the game and it's original cinematic score (also up for pre-order on iTunes), available on launch day. Featuring tracks from AWOLNATION, RISE AGAINST, DEPECHE MODE, and more, full details on the record can be viewed below, complete with preview tracks...

I must be getting soft this week. Three Kickstarters in seven days, and I usually don't post Kickstarter projects at all (largely because once I do a post, ten more people come at me with their hands out for coverage, and most of them suck), but there have been some good things popping up lately. One example is LiddUp, a cooler with built-in LED lighting... like a refrigerator. Seems like a simple, no-brainer of an idea... but it goes deeper. Featured this past week on ABC's SHARK TANK (where the creators did score a deal), a Kickstarter is up*, and there's no better overview of the product than the video by Jayson Sandberg and Taylor Gwiazdon.

The 2010 Australian film, WASTED ON THE YOUNG is gearing up for a 'Stateside DVD release after previously-hitting VOD (you can grab it on iTunes now), and to get the hype machine rolling, a new music video for the HEALTH track "Die Slow" has been assembled using footage from the film. You can check out the new video below. WASTED ON THE YOUNG arrives on DVD April 23 via Indomina Releasing (Luv, Afro Samurai).

The fact that a remake of the EVIL DEAD actually happened makes me glad that I'm not still working in the "horror business" full-time. I imagine that the horror sites have just about hit the overkill level of hype for the flick, which I just watched the trailer for tonight. Not impressed. The original was fun. This doesn't look fun at all. That said, the original score by Roque Baños will be released by La-La Land Records next month, and there's a good chance that it will be better than the film itself. Check out the official announcement, which arrived here at Rock Father HQ earlier this evening...

100greatestAfter releasing their first 100 GREATEST FILM THEMES collection in 2007, Silva Screen Records followed it up with another 100 in 2010. Now comes 100 GREATEST FILM THEMES - TAKE 3, a fresh batch of important pieces of film music performed by The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra and London Music Works. This six-disc collection arrived on iTunes today, and I've got the full tracklisting posted below.

For the first time since 1995's DIE HARD WITH A VENGEANCE, I have missed out on seeing a DIE HARD film on the big screen. My wife wasn't keen on "wasting" a date night on A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD when it arrived in theaters this past Valentine's Day, and as a work-at-home Dad, I just don't have much time to hit the theater. Now, the fifth installment of the popular franchise will arrive on Digital HD on May 14 and on Blu-ray and DVD June 4 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. They hit The Rock Father with all the specs earlier today, and I'm sharing them with you below...

You know, since becoming The Rock Father, getting to the movie theater just isn't a regular occurence anymore. I used to be immersed in movies 24/7 (I even used to work on them), but as a work-at-home Dad with a 3-year-old and an infant, I get behind real fast. Case-in-point: SKYFALL, the latest adventure to feature Daniel Craig as JAMES BOND. I love Bond. In fact, I don't think I missed a Bond film in theaters from LICENSE TO KILL (1989) through QUANTUM OF SOLACE (2008). In '09 I became a Dad, and I missed 2012's SKYFALL. Now it's coming home, so I can finally watch it! Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment sent over the full details, and I'm sharing it with you below...

If you've been following my "Daddy Shooting Pixels" posts in the Toys & Games section of The Rock Father, then you're probably well-aware of the fact that I'm really looking forward to the release of CALL OF DUTY: BLACK OPS 2. Now comes word from Activision that the soundtrack to the game is getting a major push as well, and will hit iTunes on November 13th, the same day that the game hits retail. With a main theme by Trent Reznor of NINE INCH NAILS and a score by Jack Wall, the COD:BO2 soundtrack should be pretty good.

The folks at Lakeshore Records just sent over details on a pair of albums being released for the film, BUTTER. The score (released this week, get it on iTunes) features original music by Mateo Messina (Juno, TV’s Fairly Legal). The soundtrack features original songs by Fitz and the Tantrums, Imani Coppola featuring Time Myers, Jonsi and Raphael Saadiq, along with one track from the score by Messina, and will hit iTunes (pre-order here) next Tuesday, October 9. Check the tracklisting below...

Lakeshore Records will release the NOBODY WALKS - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack via digital retailers on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 (pre-order now on iTunes). The album features original music by Fall On Your Sword (Twenty-Eight Hotel Rooms, Another Earth), the multimedia composing entity of Will Bates and Philip Mossman.

Aleph Records just hit The Rock Father with full details on Lalo Schifrin: My Life in Music, a four-CD boxed set of music from the legendary composer’s career in film, jazz, and classical music. The set features music from three-dozen films, jazz and symphonic pieces composed by Schifrin, and unreleased music from films including Charley Varrick, The Beguiled, Joe Kidd, and Coogan’s Bluff. Along with over five hours worth of music, a forty-eight page book is included with archival photos and notes. My Life in Music is slated for release on November 6.
