STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE is another one of the many throwbacks to my own childhood that's infiltrated Rock Father HQ in a modern form. I've thrown down some virtual ink on it in the past, most notably with an advance look at the Season 3 Premiere of STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE'S BERRY BITTY ADVENTURES back in February of 2013, prior to it's airing on The Hub Network. Now, while fans await news on Season 4 (rumored to be in the works), the folks at Fox Home Entertainment have released a new DVD, STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE: FUN IN THE SUN.

Strawberry ShortcakeAn appropriate collection to bridge the gap between Spring and Summer in the real-life, non-3D-animated world, FUN IN THE SUN finds the residents of Berry Bitty City embarking on a vacation-themed adventure in a "movie" compiled from three Season 2 episodes, "No Blueberry is an Island," "Where the Berry Breeze Blows," and "The Berry Best Vacation."

With messages of friendship, sharing secrets and being careful just what you think you heard, FUN IN THE SUN leans heavy on the "fun," but doesn't offer much in the "educational" department.

All in all, it's an entertaining collection of vibrant and wholesome entertainment that doesn't get long-in-the-tooth, and wraps up nicely. If anything, it makes the girls and I really eager to get outside more and work in the garden. It's just so Spring-y...
