When the UK-produced POPPY CAT first arrived Stateside via Sprout in 2011, we were just two years into our parenting adventure, and only months away from beginning round two. Now, ahead of it's second season premiere, my girls are two and five - the perfect ages to enjoy the series which celebrates something that I mention often here on THE ROCK FATHER: imaginative play.

Presented in perfectly-sized 11-minute episodes, POPPY CAT follows a little girl named Lara (named for the late Lara Jones, who penned the books on which the show was based) as she and Poppy Cat, along with Mo the Mouse, Zuzu the Dog, Owl, Egbert the Badger and Alma the Rabbit make their everyday adventures extraordinary through the power of imagination. It's a lot like watching my girls with the "screens" shut off - just some kids exploring the world around them, turning chairs into "cars" and "trains" based on how they're lined up, or making "castles" from blankets and toys. Imagination is a wonderful thing, and it's great to have a show that accentuates that and inspires the little ones to dream bigger, and dream more.

poppycatdvdThe second season of POPPY CAT kicks-off with a mini-marathon airing Saturday, October 25 from 1-3pm ET on Sprout. It's regular schedule begins that very night, with episodes set to air seven days a week at 7pm ET. Additional episodes can be seen Saturday mornings on the NBC Kids block, programmed by Sprout. There's even a brand-new iOS App, POPPY CAT AND THE BUBBLE VOLCANO out now, with a Spanish-language app coming down the pipeline in the very near future.
