Now that Disney is on Netflix... a Look Ahead

Netflix Stream TeamLast week, the day that many were waiting for finally arrived, with some fresh content from The Walt Disney Company making it's way to Netflix. Now, Disney on Netflix is not a new thing (titles have been there before), but per an agreement made a few years back and now officially enacted, the floodgates are slowly beginning to open for recent releases. In fact, all 2015-2016 theatrical releases from Disney will be headed to Netflix at some point in the near future, with Walt Disney Animation Studios' ZOOTOPIA making the big splash, along with other recent fare like THE FINEST HOURS. So what else can we look forward to? A ton of great films from Disney, MARVEL, Pixar, and yes, even Lucasfilm...

Looking back and ahead at the theatrical calendar, you can expect ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS, THE JUNGLE BOOK, FINDING DORY and THE BFG to hit eventually. Then factor in movies that aren't even out yet, like DOCTOR STRANGE, MOANA and ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS Story, and the library is intriguing.

For now there's some classic titles back in the mix as well, with films like MULAN II, ROBIN HOOD (which helped inspire ZOOTOPIA), TARZAN and PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN streaming now. In October, POOH's GRAND ADVENTURE: THE SEARCH FOR CHRISTOPHER ROBIN will arrive, but personally, I expect November to be a big month.

But, with how integrated Disney's MARVEL arm is with Netflix and the full string of Netflix Original Series' like DAREDEVIL, JESSICA JONES, the just-launched LUKE CAGE and forthcoming titles like IRON FIST, THE PUNISHER and THE DEFENDERS, I'd totally dig seeing the MARVEL Cinematic Universe come to the service for some marathon action. That's not something that's happening just yet (or even rumored), but it's definitely on my wish list.
