Growing up, MAD MONSTER PARTY was the stuff of legend for quite a few years. Originally released in 1967, this stop-motion classic from Rankin/Bass was rarely-seen and never seemed to have quite the notoriety of the other Holiday specials (such as RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER) produced by the purveyors of the "Animagic" technique.  Despite a few video releases over the years, it wasn't until it hit DVD in the 2000's that this Halloween special (since repackaged and reissued several times over) really became a staple again.

madmonsterbdLast year, I introduced my oldest daughter to the world of MAD MONSTER PARTY for the very first time. Certainly not as flashy or colorful as the programming that kids of today are used to, this tale of a retiring Baron Boris von Frankenstein (voiced by Boris Karloff) and his famous monster friends (Dracula, Frankenstein's monster, The Werewolf, Dr. Jekyll, The Mummy, The Invisible Man, etc.) still managed to grab her attention and hold it throughout.

And how about that rockin' skeleton band?

With Halloween just two weeks away, MAD MONSTER PARTY has been pulled from the archives and sits close to the television ready for another viewing for 2012.

Is this classic special a part of your Halloween tradition?

Don't have MAD MONSTER PARTY? It's available now on DVD or on Blu-Ray + DVD Combo Pack from Walmart.com.
