Unless I happen to be in Los Angeles for a premiere, I tend to skip the advance screenings of upcoming films. In large part it's due to being 50 miles outside of Chicago proper, which makes attending the advances logistically difficult - but there are exceptions. Star Wars is the one franchise that I consciously avoid attending press screenings for, even though it's the series that most would expect that I'd absolutely want to see early. The reason for that is that the Star Wars films are something special for our family, and for the modern films that Lucasfilm has been releasing under Disney ownership, the tradition is that my wife and I see them at the Thursday night "preview" showings, and then take our daughters to see them over the weekend.  My personal connection to Star Wars runs deep, and I was there working with Disney to promote the launch of J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 2015, on the ground at the Global Media Event to play a small part in ushering in a new era of Star Wars - a return to the saga that many felt would never happen. Now, with the release of Solo: A Star Wars Story, I think we've reached a point where all generations should be enjoying these films more than ever before... if they'd just let themselves have some fun.

The promotional activities for Lucasfilm's Solo: A Star Wars Story is now in full-effect, and that means quite a few new posters. I've enjoyed the western vibe of the U.S. posters, but now there's one out of the UK that is hands-down my absolute favorite. It's vibrant and I did it - plus Lando's bright yellow outfit really pops (see it below). Speaking of Calrissian, if you're like me, you've probably always enjoyed the idea of wearing a short cape like he does. Now, thanks to ThinkGeek (an affiliate of this site), you can have your own Lando Cape, and this slice of intergalactic fashion will only set you back around $70. Now, perhaps you want something a little less flashy - something more subdued that flips the switch between smuggler and scoundrel. In that case, you can pick up a Han Solo jacket very similar to the one worn by Alden Ehrenreich in the new film. Check 'em out...

It's the most-condensed promotion for a Star Wars film that we've ever seen, and personally - I dig it. Due to the close proximity to the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, promotion for Solo: A Star Wars Story had been held back a bit but now it's kicking into hyperdrive! A new TV spot just arrived and it showcases the crew of scoundrels about to pull of a job as we look into the early adventures of Han Solo and his new friend, Chewbacca. What's unique about this spot is that it might be the first example of a Star Wars spot using music from a popular artist alongside the typical score and trailer music elements. AWOLNATION's 2015 track "Run" is featured heavily in this one. Check it out...

On May 25, 2018 - 41 years to the day that 1977's Star Wars first hit theaters, audiences will go back to a time shortly before that... a time when Han Solo and Lando Calrissian were just gaining their legendary status. Solo: A Star Wars Story will showcase the smugglers and scoundrels in an one of their early adventures in a galaxy far, far away. Having made its debut on ABC during American Idol, here's the second trailer for Solo - the first to give some real looks at the story. Check it out!

One of the worst-kept secrets in Hollywood just became official: Donald Glover has been cast as young Lando Calrissian in the upcoming standalone Han Solo "Star Wars Story." Lucasfilm announced today that the acclaimed actor, award-winning writer, and Grammy-nominated artist (aka Childish Gambino), will be stepping into the role originally played by Billy Dee Williams in the new film helmed by directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.
