Is Scrooge McDuck a big EDM fan? While I can't say (though I have taken a dive into his famed money pit), the DuckTales have entered a whole new world with the release of a brand-new collaboration between Marshmello and Disney. The DJ/Producer's recent video for "Fly" already racked up more than 48 million views on YouTube, and now there's a new version featuring the DuckTales crew. A mix of animation and live-action, the music video launches Scrooge, his nephew Donald, great-nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie and their friend Webby into a musical outer space adventure. When their spaceship unexpectedly crashes, they encounter an alien DJ on a remote Marshmello planet. The video just made its premiere during a screening of Disney·Pixar's The Incredibles leading into the "2018 Radio Disney Music Awards" (RDMA) (8:00-10:00 p.m. EDT/PDT), on Disney Channel. See Marshmello x DuckTales - "FLY" below!
There's an L.A.-based duo called SNAKED (Hugh Myrone and Depressed Teenager) that just debuted a new single called "Paul Stanley" via NestHQ, and it's worth a listen. They're calling it RDM (Rockstar Dance Music), and over the top of the beats and riffs sits the onstage banter of the KISS vocalist for which the song is named. There's a couple of "Ohs" and "Woos" that sound more like VAN HALEN's David Lee Roth from the famed "Running With the Devil" acapella takes, but it's a tune all about Paul. Check it out below...
Today, Walt Disney Records issued what is quite possibly one of the strangest, yet appropriately contemporary releases in their catalog. DCONSTRUCTED (available on Amazon & iTunes) finds Mickey Mouse and Friends going full-on EDM, with remixes of classic and modern Disney fare by artists such as AVICII, ARMIN VAN BUUREN, BT and more. Tonight, the video for THE MUPPET SHOW THEME as reimagined by SHY KIDX hit my inbox, and it is certainly something to behold. Not necessarily for the kids, it's a rave-styled trip. In fact, it reminds me of a few weekends back in 1994-1995-ish, when I visited some underground raves in the Quad Cities. I had a funky hat.
While I've already shared my thoughts on the terrible tragedy that occurred at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT, last month, there hasn't been a day that's gone by without thinking about it. While outsiders like myself were cetainly impacted by the events of December 14, 2012, the community that experienced it first-hand faces a liftime of healing, with support needed in areas that haven't even begun to surface. With that in mind, the Sandy Hook School Support Fund was established jointly by United Way of Western Connecticut and Newtown Savings Bank to support the Newtown community following the Sandy Hook School tragedy. Now, my friends at FiXT (a leading label and retailer of EDM and rock music) have partnered with Groupees.com and over 50 artists to benefit the fund through sales of TO NEWTOWN WITH LOVE, a massive bundle of digital music with 100% of donations going to the fund.
Earlier this year, Disney-Pixar issued another entry in their TOY STORY TOONS series, with the short film, PARTYSAURUS REX (watch it now on Disney.com). The new short played in theaters before FINDING NEMO 3D, and featured an original score from acclaimed EDM (Electronic Dance Music) artist/producer, BT. After the success of Partysaurus Rex, Disney-Pixar have just released a new single entitled "Partysaurus Overflow" by BT and Au5 - an extended cut featuring music from the short along with audio samples from various characters from the film.
