As a parent, I'm always cautious as to what environmental hazards my children are exposed to, and a lot of times, there's danger lurking right here at home. Harmful chemicals can be hard to avoid, and first-time filmmaker Ed Brown explores this in his acclaimed film, UNACCEPTABLE LEVELS, which arrives in wide-release on DVD, June 10th (pre-order now). To celebrate the release, THE ROCK FATHER is teaming up with The Disinformation Company to offer a chance for two (2) lucky readers to win copies of this important film on DVD, and you can also check out Ed Brown's "Five Tips to Avoid Chemicals" below...

In raising a pair of young girls and serving as publisher of this website, I find myself constantly trying to center the teeter-totter that rides a line between educational and entertaining. Ideally, the majority of the programming that they watch regularly will be somewhere near that middle point, completely making learning fun. Disney Junior's MICKEY MOUSE CLUBHOUSE definitely brings the fun, and with it's latest DVD collection, AROUND THE CLUBHOUSE WORLD, introduces young audiences (2+) to the idea of countries and cultures well beyond our own.

amazonkidsAmazon Studios recently announced the launch of Amazon Kids, and today the first original series has arrived on Amazon Prime, with the release of TUMBLE LEAF. Created for preschool-aged children, each episode of TUMBLE LEAF follows Fig, a delightfully curious blue fox, and his best friend Stick, a quirky caterpillar, as they embark on a fun and nature-filled adventure, learning science through their natural play.

PBS KIDS VIPAs I wrap-up my time here in San Francisco, reporting back from the PBS Annual Meeting, I'm mulling over a gigantic, and impressive slate of programming for the year ahead (and beyond) from both PBS KIDS and For Grownups. While there will be much to discuss in the months ahead, the star of the show on the PBS KIDS front is ODD SQUAD, the new, live-action series for kids that I first posted about here on THE ROCK FATHER back in January. Here at the meeting, it was confirmed that ODD SQUAD will premiere on Wednesday, November 26, 2014 on PBS KIDS with a special one-hour broadcast of two back-to-back episodes that follow the adventures of two young government agents, Olive and Otto, who use math skills and collaboration to investigate weird and unusual phenomena.

THE ROCK FATHER is a 2014 PBS KIDS VIP (Very Involved Parent)Earlier today, my friends as PBS KIDS launched a revolutionary, first-of-it's-kind App that gives parents a "super power" - the power to see what their kids are watching, learning and playing on pbskids.org, and to help parents guide and maximize their kids' PBS KIDS screen time. Get ready for imitators, because this is pretty cool...

THE ROCK FATHER is a 2014 PBS KIDS VIP (Very Involved Parent)PEG + CAT has been a fixture at Rock Father HQ even before it was released, my first experience with the math-based PBS KIDS series coming last May, when I met with creators Jennifer Oxley and Billy Aronson at the PBS Annual Meeting. Since that time, families have come to love PEG + CAT, and it was only a matter of time until this animated duo were given the proper musical treatment. PBS KIDS presents Peg and Cat's Really Big Album has just hit Amazon and iTunes (with a very BEATLES, Sgt. Pepper's-inspired cover), joining recent releases from DANIEL TIGER'S NEIGHBORHOOD in the PBS KIDS music library, and setting the stage for further releases in the months ahead.
