Some years back, Michael Bolton found himself drawn to Detroit while researching for his 2013 album "Ain't No Mountain High Enough: A Tribute to Hitsville USA." Beyond the music of Motown, Bolton realized that there was so much more to explore about Detroit’s past, present and future. Now comes his new documentary, American Dream: Detroit, a film that celebrates the golden age of the Motor City - featuring natives such as Francis Ford Coppola, Jerry Bruckheimer, Aretha Franklin, Smokey Robinson and Alice Cooper. It's an exploration of a city in turnaround, pulling back the curtain on the vision of a new Detroit being built by young visionaries and entrepreneurial moguls alike. On May 15th, Fathom Events will bring it to theaters for one night only - see the trailer below!
Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You! has been rolling out in Asia this summer, and now the latest film based on the Pokémon brand is coming to movie theaters around the world for two days this November. Audiences in the U.S. can look for the film to hit screens for two days only, on Sunday, November 5, and Monday, November 6, 2017 via Fathom Events.
When it comes to the blockbuster films of 1977, if you're like me, the one that comes to mind is an out-of-nowhere film from a galaxy far, far away. Indeed, it was May 25, 1977 when STAR WARS first hit theater screens, but just two days later came the release of the year's second-biggest grosser - and another movie very near and dear to me: Hal Needham's SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT. This May, TCM Big Screen Classics and Fathom Events will bring SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT back to theaters, as it races into cinemas for a special two-night 40th Anniversary Event, May 21 & May 24!
The time has come for the RiffTrax crew (Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy, and Bill Corbett, of MST3K fame) to return to U.S. movie theaters, with RiffTrax Live: Samurai Cop, their 24th RiffTrax title since 2009 for Fathom Events. This special presentation will find the trio breaking out fresh comedic commentary on the titular Samurai Cop and his partner as they journey from a faraway land called “San Diego” to bust up a gang whose stated goal is putting someone’s head on their piano. Curious how MONSTER HIGH began? On Saturday, August 27, Fathom Events, Mattel and Women's Forum present the premiere of WELCOME TO MONSTER HIGH: The Origin Story, coming to select theaters for a special one-day event. The movie takes audiences back to a time when monsters lived in hiding (even from each other) because they were afraid they would be in danger if humans knew they existed. But Draculaura, the daughter of Dracula, along with her best ghoulfriend Frankie Stein, daughter of Dr. Frankenstein’s Monster, dreamt of a school where everyone was welcome and accepted for who they are. I've said it before, but "space" is hot right now, and for a kid that grew up in the Shuttle-era with movies like SPACE CAMP and countless other sci-fi adventures in regular rotation, it's been fantastic to see The Rock Daughters be so inquisitive and excited for outer-space adventures. Fueled by the likes of STAR WARS, MILES FROM TOMORROWLAND, THE FLOOGALS and READY, JET, GO!, the kids have become enthralled with space, and it's obvious that they're not alone as even the TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES recently went into orbit, and now BARBIE is getting into the action. Mattel has launched an entire line of toys based on BARBIE: STAR LIGHT ADVENTURE (I already bought the girls a few of the dolls), the latest CGI animated feature created in partnership with Universal Studios Home Entertainment. Coming to Blu-ray and DVD on September 13th, Fathom Events, Mattel and Women's Forum will bring BARBIE: STAR LIGHT ADVENTURE to the big screen for one day only, Saturday, July 30th, 2016, complete with an exclusive introduction from Barbie PLUS deleted scenes and bonus content, a special interview with a NASA astronaut, and the “Firefly” and “Shooting Star” music videos with lyrics so you can sing along!
