They say that "winter is coming," but as far as I'm concerned, it's already here in the snow-covered landscape of northern Illinois. While Game of Thrones is still hot, beer should be served cold as snow, and on Black Friday the crew at Cooperstown, NY-based Brewery Ommegang unleashed their fourth beer inspired by GoT.  King in the North, a beer brewed for Jon Snow, is the fourth and final beer in this year’s Royal Reserve Collection, a series of four limited release beers, each designed and brewed as an homage to one of four epic figures engaged in the battle for the Seven Kingdoms.

According to the brewery: "King in the North pours jet black with a thick tan head. Aromas of roasted malt, coffee, and chocolate blend with those of oak, bourbon, and vanilla. The flavor is rich and full with notes of chocolate, vanilla, coffee, and roasted malt up front followed by smooth bourbon and a hint of oak. The finish is thick and chewy with oatmeal creaminess, and pleasant lingering roast. King in the North pairs well with funky aged cheeses, rich dark meats and decadent desserts. It also makes a great dessert on its own."

Jon Snow Beer

They say it's intended to "sustain a leader through a long, dark night," and I could see that. After downing a sample bottle that arrived here at Rock Father™ HQ, I can attest to the fact that there's some heft to this brew!

King in the North is available in draft and in 750ml bottles at the brewery, with bottles and a limited-edition gift pack featuring all four Royale Reserve Collection Beers available through specialty retailers. It would make a great gift for the hardcore Game of Thrones fan! Want even more GoT gift ideas? Check out my friends at Entertainment Earth.

Game of Thrones Disclosure:

I'm always upfront and honest about things here in the virtual pages of The Rock Father™ Magazine, so with that I feel obligated to reveal that other than watching a YouTube supercut of Emilia Clarke saying "dracarys" to her dragon to unleash all kinds of firepower, I have never seen an episode of Game of Thrones (we don't have HBO). Maybe I'll catch it somewhere down the line.

As always, please consume your royal beverages responsibly.

This past fall, HBO welcomed back to the network Sarah Jessica Parker, the woman responsible for bringing to life one of HBO’s most iconic characters in Sex and the City, for Divorce. The new HBO comedy became a much-talked about hit, scoring Parker a nomination for "Best Actress in a Comedy Series" at the recent Golden Globes, and Divorce was quickly renewed for a second season. Now available as the latest digital download from HBO Home Entertainment, The Rock Father™ has teamed-up with HBO to give readers a chance to win one of three (3) digital download codes for Divorce - Season 1 on Digital HD!

One new series (for grownups) that I've been waiting for was first announced back in 2014, and now it has a premiere date.  The HBO drama series, VINYL, kicks off its ten-episode season SUNDAY, FEB. 14 (9:00-11:00 p.m. ET/PT) with a pilot directed by Martin Scorsese, from a story by Rich Cohen & Mick Jagger & Martin Scorsese and Terence Winter, and teleplay by Terence Winter and George Mastras, followed by hour-long episodes debuting subsequent Sundays at the same time. VINYL is a fictionalized look at the music business of the 1970s, with New York as the backdrop for an era that witnessed the birth of punk, disco and hip-hop. Check out a preview below...

Watch: First Trailer for HBO's SESAME STREET

On January 16, some familiar faces will be popping up in some new places, and it's all brought to you by the letters H-B-O. The all-new season of SESAME STREET makes its debut on HBO as part of the HBO Kids lineup, the official launch to the partnership between Sesame Workshop and HBO. Yes, PBS KIDS will still air SESAME STREET uninterrupted (new episodes debut there nine months later), but HBO will be your premiere destination for new and classic episodes. SESAME STREET has long-been one of our favorite shows here at Rock Father HQ (dating back to my own childhood), so we're looking forward to some new adventures in Season 46 - a season that will include 30-minute episodes, new preschool-relevant themes, new show open and closing songs, an updated set, a new segment called “Smart Cookies,” and a new cast member, “Nina.” Take a look at the first trailer below...

It's hard to believe, but this past summer marked the 10th anniversary of the premiere of ENTOURAGE on HBO. I was completely on-board from the first episode, and watching the show with friends became a weekly tradition. There were parallels to my own group of friends at the time, as I was in the midst of pursuing a career in film/tv, as were a couple others close to me - one of which was a rising actor. By the time the final season rolled around, I actually missed it and stayed completely spoiler-free until binge watching it earlier this year. Now, the first "official teaser" trailer for Warner Bros.' big-screen ENTOURAGE adventure has arrived, and it's reminded me just how sorely this show has been missed. Watch it below, right here on THE ROCK FATHER...
