Last year, my wife and I were invited to attend the opening night performance of THE NUTCRACKER by THE JOFFREY BALLET in Chicago. If I were to describe the show in one word, "magnificent" would be it, and for those wishing to let their children have a chance to be a part of this Chicago tradition, your chance has arrived. This is sort of interesting that this news landed here at Rock Father HQ when it did - a time when my oldest (not quite five) is in Theatre Camp for a "Broadway Beginners" production of ANNIE that wraps-up later this week. Interesting, because this is "Broadway on Screen," and starting June 23, Screenvision and Lincoln Center are bringing THE NANCE starring Nathan Lane to 300 screens Nationwide. Check out a preview...

The Joffrey Ballet’s 2013-14 “Masters of Dance” season comes to a close this spring with the U.S. Premiere of Krzysztof Pastor’s Romeo & Juliet. Pastor, Director of the Polish National Ballet and Resident Choreographer of the Dutch National Ballet, originally created this new version of Romeo & Juliet in 2008 for the Scottish Ballet. His work has never before been seen in Chicago. Romeo & Juliet runs for 10 performances only at the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University, 50 East Congress Parkway, April 30 – May 11.

I've seen some "numbers" (ratings and stats) regarding the appeal of Disney Junior's SOFIA THE FIRST, JAKE AND THE NEVER LAND PIRATES and DOC McSTUFFINS over these past few years, but nothing embodies just how big these shows have become more than a crowd of 2,000 kids and grownups singing along to their favorite songs. That was the scene at the Rosemont Theatre outside of Chicago tonight, where the Feld Entertainment production of Disney Junior Live On Tour! Pirate & Princess Adventure has settled in for the weekend.
