I have a little confession. Despite all the awesome that comes out of Funko, there has never been a Pop! Vinyl figure that I took one look at and said, "I absolutely must have that!" And believe me, I own hundreds of them and there's many more that I'd like to own. But until today, there has never been a single figure that I've absolutely just thrown money at the screen for... until today. The undisputed Greatest Television Series of All-Time™* is finally getting the Pop! Vinyl treatment, and it's coming through the Pop! Rides line. The KNIGHT RIDER Michael Knight with K.I.T.T. figure pays tribute to the excellent 1982-1986 NBC television series that brought audiences along for "a shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a man who does not exist." It also let kids like me know that "one man can make a difference," while inspiring much of the automotive and AI technology that exists in the world today. Available for pre-order via my friends at Entertainment Earth (an affiliate) for an August/September delivery, this is sure to become a sought-after addition to any Pop! Collection, and one desired by all with good taste.
Hot Wheels are something that I've written about regularly here on The Rock Father™ Magazine for the better part of a decade. This year, Mattel's iconic diecast vehicles are celebrating a milestone - their 50th Anniversary - and we were able to take part. Earlier this month, a crew from NBC News paid a visit to Rock Father HQ not to meet with me... but to interview our girls, The Rock Daughters™. Addie and Finley have a Hot Wheels collection that far eclipses what i had as a kid, and little Finley is the proud owner of one of the rarest Hot Wheels products ever made - The Rock Daughter™ Edition Hot Wheels Bed, created three years ago in collaboration between Mattel, yours truly and The Step2 Company. On June 5, 2018, NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt aired the Hot Wheels special feature as the NBC Nightly Snapshot. If you missed it, here's the video in its entirety...
As AMERICAN NINJA WARRIOR prepares to enter its eighth season tonight on NBC, it seems a lot of people have forgotten where it made its debut... back on the late G4TV in 2009. Since then, the show has become a phenomenon, emulated by kids, adored by grownups, and today I do believe it's achieved icon status. After all, when your property is officially recognized in LEGO form, that's a real testament to how big it's become, and today brings the first of four installments of #LEGOANW. Watch below as some favorite characters from the LEGO NINJAGO play theme face off against some familiar faces from AMERICAN NINJA WARRIOR as they take on one of this season's never-before-seen obstacles - THE BIG WHEEL - all presented in LEGO brick form!
It's no secret that KNIGHT RIDER is the greatest television series that the world has, or will ever know. Sure, it may only hold that acclaim here in my own home, but I love KNIGHT RIDER immensely, and hold its star, David Hasselhoff in exceptionally high regard. I've been obsessed with the series ever since its initial run from 1982-1986, and was saddened as a 10-year-old when it went off the air, unceremoniously - without a true send-off or finale (though "The Scent of Roses" should've been aired last, but was not). Various reboots have failed over the years, with none just giving the fans what they really want - Michael Knight and K.I.T.T. in a Pontiac Trans Am. Whenever a hint of something new comes forth, people get anxious - and that's what happened back in May of 2014 when news of something called KNIGHT RIDER HEROES started bubbling. Now, 19 months later, there's a trailer for KNIGHT RIDER HEROES, though we still don't know what it is. It's both exciting and concerning at the same time...
FRIENDS is going through a Renaissance, it would seem. 11 years after "The Last One" aired on NBC, and 21 years after "The Pilot," the folks at Funko have announced a series of Pop! Vinyls that will bring the six main characters of the show into loveable 3¾" vinyl figure form. While you may have to build your own "Central Perk" or "Apartment" playset, you can almost be certain that someone will reimagine THE REMBRANDTS' "I'll Be There for You" music video or the show's opening titles with Pop! Vinyls standing in. My friends at Entertainment Earth have the full set up for pre-order right now, with expected delivery taking place in February of 2016 - more than enough time to watch the series again on Netflix.
Last night, FAITH NO MORE made their first U.S. television appearance in nearly two decades, making their return with a triumphant performance of "Superhero" on LATE NIGHT WITH JIMMY FALLON. It was an appropriate place to make a National return, with FNM making previous NBC appearances on SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE (1990, "Epic" and "From Out of Nowhere"), THE TONIGHT SHOW with JAY LENO (1993, "Midlife Crisis" and "Easy"), and LATE NIGHT with CONAN O'BRIEN (1995, "Ricochet"), on which they even did a skit. Check out last night's appearance in the clips below, and look for FAITH NO MORE's SOL INVICTUS, in-stores next week!
