PBS KIDS VIPApril is Earth Month, and as we eagerly await warmer weather and the emergence of "green" in the area around Rock Father HQ, now comes news that my friends at PBS KIDS are getting ready to celebrate with a month of Earth-themed programming, and it all kicks off on April 7 in partnership with The National Recreation and Park Association as the "Explore the Outdoors" initiative. Check out all the details below, right here on THE ROCK FATHER...

The Rock Father is a 2014 PBS KIDS VIP (Very Involved Parent) BloggerBefore it even made it's debut back in 2012 (and before I became one of the PBS KIDS VIP Bloggers), I was excited about DANIEL TIGER'S NEIGHBORHOOD. Continuing the legacy of Fred Rogers, and set within the familiar Neighborhood of Make Believe, the adventures of Daniel and his friends fast became one of the most-watched programs here at Rock Father HQ. With perfectly-sized episodes, each with a valuable lesson for preschoolers, and some of the best music you'll find in children's programming, the show is a hit on several levels, and though I've said this before, I feel I need to say it again: I don't think that there's another show that my kids watch that makes me feel good in the way that DANIEL TIGER'S NEIGHBORHOOD does.

THE ROCK FATHER is a PBS KIDS VIP (Very Involved Parent) BloggerToday, Theodor Suess Geisel, better-known as DR. SUESS, would've celebrated his 110th birthday. In honor of the iconic author and artist, my friends at PBS KIDS are launching a CAT-EBRATION lead by one of Suess' most-beloved characters. Tomorrow, Monday, March 3, 2014 - THE CAT IN THE HAT KNOWS A LOT ABOUT THAT! will debut an all-new, one-hour special, with additional new episodes rolling out this Tuesday and Wednesday. Check out all the details below, right here on THE ROCK FATHER...

PBS KIDS VIPEarlier this week, I posted an entry about attending the kindergarten open house at the school where my oldest daughter will begin a new era of learning adventures this Fall. Evidently, I wasn't the only one thinking ahead to the next school year - specifically being ready to have a kindergartner in our midst. Just yesterday, PBS KIDS released the results of a "School Readiness Survey," and the results showed concern from parents of children ages 2-6 when it comes to social and emotional skills, along with basic reading and math in terms of getting kids prepped and ready to take that next step. Here's some numbers, along with some tips on school readiness from the PBS KIDS Team...

Review: CAILLOU'S GARDEN ADVENTURES (DVD)

Whenever I write about Caillou here on THE ROCK FATHER, I usually tend to include a little preface - a wee bit of background, if you will - about how loved the divisive little four-year-old is here at Rock Father HQ. You see, what usually happens is that a Caillou post lures out of the woodwork these... people - people that like to complain about the little guy for no better reason other than complaining. They're sorta like a clique -  one comprised largely of the uninformed that's never actually watched and absorbed the show. They just say "He's whiny" (in a pretty whiny voice themselves), and then they scurry back into whatever hole they crawled out of (and then I delete their comments). Yes, this is a pro-Caillou household, and for those of you unfamiliar, that little "E/I" big in the corner? That means "educational and informational," and not any show can get it. It's a badge of honor bestowed upon certain shows by the FCC - and CAILLOU has it. My reason for the rundown today? CAILLOU'S GARDEN ADVENTURES just hit DVD via my friends at PBS KIDS and DHX Media.

It's an in-between week for new family media titles, with some decent stuff hitting retail but no single "blockbuster" title to lead the charge. But that doesn't mean that the offerings aren't worth a look, as there's a trio of new DVDs from SESAME STREET along with BEWARE THE BATMAN, STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE, GARFIELD, DR. SUESS and a bunch of bargain-priced reissues. And, if you'd like to "Think Spring," there's new Easter titles from PETER RABBIT, PETER COTTONTAIL, and Nickelodeon's DORA THE EXPLORER. Here's what's hitting the streets today, February 18, 2014.
