On November 27th, the Holiday Season kicks off on PBS KIDS with the return of THE CAT IN THE HAT KNOWS A LOT ABOUT CHRISTMAS! - the smash hit that scored big with families last year, with over 3.6 million tuning in, and another 27 million streams! From there, PBS KIDS will be presenting all-new Holiday episodes of DANIEL TIGER'S NEIGHBORHOOD and THOMAS & FRIENDS, along with the new SESAME STREET special, ELMO'S CHRISTMAS COUNTDOWN. Pair those with encore presentations of Holiday favorites from CURIOUS GEORGE, ARTHUR, and SHALOM SESAME, and the season certainly looks bright. I've got the full run-down on all the PBS KIDS goodies, right here on THE ROCK FATHER. Start setting those DVRs!
In a season where new "Halloween specials" have been light, there's a real classic vibe that comes with CURIOUS GEORGE: A HALLOWEEN BOO FEST. Making it's television debut this Monday (10/28) on PBS KIDS (check your local listings), this first-ever pumpkin-spiced tale for the little monkey has a warmth that I haven't really gotten from recent seasonal fare. Seeing my oldest curl-up on the couch with her Curious George mask as we took in a sneak-preview here at Rock Father HQ, it reminded me of those nights as a kid in the 1980s where I'd do the same while eagerly-awaiting IT'S THE GREAT PUMPKIN, CHARLIE BROWN. With that, CURIOUS GEORGE: A HALLOWEEN BOO FEST secures its place as part of 31 Days of Halloween here on The Rock Father.
Today is the day... after months of waiting, PEG + CAT will make it's debut on PBS KIDS (check your local listings for times)! The latest offering from The Fred Rogers Company seeks to bring young viewers a new way to experience math through Peg and Cat’s relatable, and often hilarious, adventures. Each PEG + CAT episode features original songs and fascinating stories in which Peg and Cat encounter a problem that requires them to use math and problem-solving skills in order to move forward. To bring the experience beyond the television, PBS KIDS has launched several interactive PEG + CAT features, including the rockin' PEG + CAT BIG GIG APP, 11 online games, and numerous offline activities. I've got details on all of them, right here on The Rock Father!
Earlier this month, the residents of SESAME STREET kicked off their 44th season on PBS KIDS, welcoming a new neighbor to the 'Street with the addition of 'Mando (who I met and did a video with - along with Rosita - earlier this year). This week, some familiar faces stopped by LATE NIGHT WITH JIMMY FALLON, where they joined Fallon and The Roots to perform a new version of the iconic "Sesame Street" Theme Song... with classroom instruments. Watch the video below to see just how hard BIG BIRD, MR. SNUFFLEUPAGUS, COUNT VON COUNT, ELMO, ABBY CADABBY, GROVER, MURRAY, GROVER, ZOE, and COOKIE MONSTER rock out with the LATE NIGHT crew. It's probably the best thing you'll see all week.
On Friday, September 27, the residents of DANIEL TIGER'S NEIGHBORHOOD will meet a new friend when Chrissie, Prince Wednesday’s 6-year-old cousin makes her first visit to The Neighborhood of Make-Believe in an all-new episode, "Daniel's New Friend/Same and Different." Chrissie plans to visit the Neighborhood frequently, and will appear on future episodes of the hit PBS KIDS show.
Since today is International Talk Like A Pirate Day, I figured it was the perfect time to share with all of you a little project that we recently completed here at Rock Father HQ. With the new math-centric series PEG + CAT getting ready to make it's debut on PBS KIDS on October 7, the folks at PBS KIDS and Whole Foods Market have teamed-up to offer families some fun recipes that are both educational and healthy. But they're not just recipes - but arts and crafts projects as well - and we took on The Pirates' "Great Banana" Fruit Salad Recipe and Craft Activity. Not only did we make some tasty fruit salad from scratch, but we also created our own little "treasure chests" to keep it in as well. Let's take a look...
