The Rock Father™ is a member of the Netflix #StreamTeam
I was just thinking about how it's been over two years since The Rock Daughters™ and I filmed a video doing some in-home science experiments timed with the debut of Project Mc2 - an Emmy-nominated Netflix Original Series from MGA Entertainment. Time certainly does fly, and that's made clear by what hit my inbox this evening - news that Project Mc2 Part 5 is coming to Netflix on September 15, and that the cast and crew recently threw-down at The London Hotel in West Hollywood, California to unveil the new season alongside some of this fall's new additions to the growing toy line.
If you've been following my adventures over these past few months, you may have already seen some of my reporting on the Family TV "Co-Viewing" initiatives that my friends at Netflix have been rolling out. While shows like FULLER HOUSE have gotten a big push already this year, the seeds were planted awhile ago, and one of last year's surprises is coming back, with two new seasons of MGA's Netflix Original Series, Project Mc2 on-deck. The Daytime Emmy-nominated series has shown girls around the world that Smart is the New Cool, and season 2 will premiere worldwide Friday, August 12, followed by Season 3, which will be available in fall 2016. So how about something fresh to watch in the meantime? Here's a few Rock Father-approved choices to check out right now...
“Whatever happened to predictability? The milkman, the paperboy, evening tv?”
Those famous lyrics from the opening theme to FULL HOUSE may be even more relevant in 2016 than they were when audiences first heard them back in 1987. While Oberweis brought it back a bit here in Chicagoland, for the most part the milkman is a relic, the paperboy has been replaced with the digital text you’re currently reading, and evening tv… well, let’s just say that’s become “streaming tv,” and underneath that sentiment is something more - an element of “family,” something that Netflix is aiming to bring back into homes during the years ahead.
Ready to ring in the New Year? Letting the kids stay up to do it with you? According to a recent survey by Netflix, "9 is the new midnight" for families in the U.S., with 48% of parents surveyed stating that they'd ring in the new year by 9 p.m. Keeping the tradition that started last year alive, Netflix wants to help make that famous 10-second countdown as fun (and early) as possible, with exclusive, 2-minute New Year's Eve Countdown episodes of some favorite Netflix Original Series - ALL HAIL KING JULIEN, INSPECTOR GADGET, MR. PEABODY & SHERMAN, PUFFIN ROCK, and two of our favorites, CARE BEARS & COUSINS and PROJECT Mc2. Tonight (12/31/15), members of the Netflix #StreamTeam (myself included) will be sharing our New Year's Adventures on social media. Follow along and get ready to rock into 2016!
When it comes to learning, sometimes kids need a reminder that learning new things is fun - something that I’m told happens more often with older kids - ones that sit in that “tween age.” While my girls (The Rock Daughters™) are still much younger, we’re really working to embrace that sense of wonder, exploration and curiosity that both have. For Addie, our oldest, there’s been a growing tendency to conduct “experiments” on her own, and she generally pulls little Finn into the mix. Things can get messy, but that’s just fine as the girls develop their own first-hand methods of witnessing action and reaction… even if that means I might spout off like David Seville with a frustrated “Addddddie!” once in awhile (that’s my problem, not the kids’). With a lot of what they’re doing, the girls are engaging in a S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) realm without even knowing it. Embracing those interests at a young age (or refreshing them at an older one) is why it’s cool to see a program like PROJECT Mc2 hitting the scene.
