With STAR WARS REBELS Season 3 set to premiere on Saturday, September 24 (8:30 p.m. ET) on Disney XD, it's time for a refresher on what happened in Season 2 (just-released on Blu-ray and DVD). My friends at Disney put together a 2.5 minute look at the second season, essential viewing - especially for those not already well-versed in the ways of The Force. I've been saying since the beginning that STAR WARS REBELS is a must-watch, and with the events of the series having definitive connections to both the upcoming ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS Story and the in-progress new trilogy that kicked off with THE FORCE AWAKENS, there's much adventure to be had - a series for lifelong STAR WARS fans and new viewers alike!
Over the summer, we partnered with my friends at Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment to put together something that I've always wanted to have here at Rock Father HQ: A Backyard Theater. The set-up was simple and relatively inexpensive (some items were provided for the project), and sans fighting the unpredictable and uncontrollable factors like weather (heat/storms) and bugs, having the ability to enjoy movies outside, with friends, and in our own backyard was a fun new way to bring people together. We screened some big ones, too - STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, ZOOTOPIA, and most recently, THE JUNGLE BOOK. Now that the kids are back in school and the cooler, fall nights are coming, we're not going to let the fun stop. In fact, I'm eyeing some new releases and old favorites for potential screenings this fall. In fact, shorter days make for earlier screenings, so I'm all for grabbing the blankets and cuddling up with the family.
For a new generation of STAR WARS fans, Disney XD's animated series, STAR WARS REBELS has been "a first step into a larger world." While The Rock Daughters were already familiar with the original STAR WARS Trilogy thanks to their parents (quite strong in The Force, we are), it's was REBELS that really threw the doors wide open and created a pair of hardcore STAR WARS fans. Set in the years between REVENGE OF THE SITH and A NEW HOPE, STAR WARS REBELS has provided new adventures with a new cast of characters - often interacting with some fan favorites from the live-action films that have been delighting audiences for the past forty years. While there has been quite a bit of different merchandise released featuring characters from STAR WARS REBELS, this checklist focuses on Hasbro's classic 3¾" action figures, vehicles and playsets (carrying on the tradition that Kenner started 40 years ago)- along with the ever-popular "Black Series" of collector-focused 6" figures and accessories (and a few extras). Look for this list to be updated frequently with new items (and soon pictures) as the collection continues to grow.
The Hasbro booth tends to be a must-see at any event, and with numerous exclusives and debuts on-deck, their appearance at this year's San Diego Comic-Con International (SDCC) is no exception. The crew at Hasbro just sent over details on five new toys from their fall STAR WARS collection, including a pair of new 12" Electronic Duel figures, some new additions to the famed 3.75" figure/vehicle assortments. First up: the one that The Rock Daughters™ immediately zeroed-in on with excitement - Hera Syndulla's A-Wing Fighter from Disney XD's STAR WARS REBELS!
Mattel's collaboration with Lucasfilm to create diecast vehicles with roots in a galaxy far, far away dates back to 2014, and without a doubt the major success has been the line of Hot Wheels STAR WARS Character Cars (view the checklist here). Now comes the next chapter, with the summer 2016 SDCC debut of Hot Wheels STAR WARS Carships! Launched with the release of an exclusive set for SDCC, more Carships have been racing into retailers and flying off the pegs. For the spring of 2017, new packaging featuring the STAR WARS 40th Anniversary branding began hitting stores.
Their adventures took place decades apart, a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away... but Clone Captain CT-7567 and Stormtrooper FN-2187 have a lot in common. The former served in THE CLONE WARS, eventually becoming known as "Rex" and breaking The Empire's control and falling out of sight until former Jedi Ahsoka Tano arranged a meeting between he and the crew of The Ghost in STAR WARS REBELS. In THE FORCE AWAKENS, the latter would break free of The First Order, becoming known as "Finn" and joining The Resistance. Both men were at one point simply a series of letters and numbers in the eyes of their keepers - expendable soldiers in the service of evil. In reality, they were some of the greatest heroes, and kicking off on STAR WARS Day 2016, THE ROCK FATHER Magazine is giving readers a chance to win these characters - each as newly-released action figures from the Hasbro STAR WARS collection!
