It's been more than a decade since we saw Venom appear on-screen as a villain in Spider-Man 3, but now times have changed and the character is getting his own chance to shine in a feature of his own. Tom Hardy becomes the latest actor to make the jump from DC (as Bane) to Marvel as Eddie Brock when VENOM hits the big screen this October. Today the first teaser for the film has arrived, complete with a very short synopsis...  "One of Marvel's most enigmatic, complex and badass characters comes to the big screen, starring Academy Award® nominated actor Tom Hardy as the lethal protector Venom." A badass character performed by a badass actor. Last year at Blogger Bash in New York City, I got an early look at Sentiments' first Disney Pets Collection - a series of dog beds and bowls based around the iconic look of Mickey Mouse. Now comes word that the line was a success, and with that they're expanding line - and with Spider-Man: Homecoming hitting theaters this month, it's appropriate that their first foray into the Marvel realm is a collection aimed solely at canine fans of a certain NYC-based web-slinger. Can your dog (or cat) be a Disney or Marvel fan? I don't see why not...

MARVEL Studios and Sony Pictures will release Spider-Man: Homecoming on July 7, and ahead of the movie comes the toys. This week, Hasbro revealed a sneak-preview of what they'll be rolling out this spring, serving up a refreshed line of action figures, vehicles and playsets in support of the film. From this initial preview, the Spidey stuff looks a lot more appealing than the last few lines, with the 6" action figures sporting a movie look, the "Spidey Racer" vehicle including a NERF dart feature (akin to recent Star Wars vehicles), and some pretty cool playsets.

"A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Marvel Studios' CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging superhero in SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING" - That's the early synopsis given for the first SPIDER-MAN film to officially be a part of the MARVEL Cinematic Universe in a collaboration between MARVEL Studios and SONY.  Tonight at San Diego Comic-Con, the film's villain was revealed to be The Vulture, with concept art posted by the team at MARVEL.com. Additionally, some additional credits confirm that Tony Stark (if not Iron Man) will be making an appearance when the film swings into theaters on July 7, 2017.

If you've paid a visit to the "action" aisles of your local toy retailer recently, there's a solid chance that you've seen MARVEL'S ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN: WEB WARRIORS Toys. The folks at Hasbro have been rolling these out since the spring, and we've actually got quite a few of them here at Rock Father HQ - several of which were featured a few months back in an episode of UNBOXED. But now we're in summer, and with summer comes a ton of role-play fun... the kind that's quite fitting for a #SummerOfMarvel. With Addie on an adventure of her own (truth: she was napping), Little Finn and I went outside to take a look at what Hasbro had bestowed upon us...

HasbroDisney XD's ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN: WEB WARRIORS features Peter Parker being joined by Spider-Man 2099, Iron-Spider, Miles Morales and more as Spidey spans generations for maximum heroic action. To help launch the excitement, Hasbro has issued an all-new toy collection based on the show, with multiple Spider-men available across an array of play patterns - including action figures, role play and vehicles. If you're subscribed to THE ROCK FATHER on YouTube, then you may have caught a brief unboxing video last month. If not, here it is below, along with some thoughts from The Rock Daughters and myself...
