PBS KIDS VIPOn November 27th, the Holiday Season kicks off on PBS KIDS with the return of THE CAT IN THE HAT KNOWS A LOT ABOUT CHRISTMAS! - the smash hit that scored big with families last year, with over 3.6 million tuning in, and another 27 million streams! From there, PBS KIDS will be presenting all-new Holiday episodes of DANIEL TIGER'S NEIGHBORHOOD and THOMAS & FRIENDS, along with the new SESAME STREET special, ELMO'S CHRISTMAS COUNTDOWN. Pair those with encore presentations of Holiday favorites from CURIOUS GEORGE, ARTHUR, and SHALOM SESAME, and the season certainly looks bright. I've got the full run-down on all the PBS KIDS goodies, right here on THE ROCK FATHER. Start setting those DVRs!

PBS KIDSIn a season where new "Halloween specials" have been light, there's a real classic vibe that comes with CURIOUS GEORGE: A HALLOWEEN BOO FEST. Making it's television debut this Monday (10/28) on PBS KIDS (check your local listings), this first-ever pumpkin-spiced tale for the little monkey has a warmth that I haven't really gotten from recent seasonal fare. Seeing my oldest curl-up on the couch with her Curious George mask as we took in a sneak-preview here at Rock Father HQ, it reminded me of those nights as a kid in the 1980s where I'd do the same while eagerly-awaiting IT'S THE GREAT PUMPKIN, CHARLIE BROWN. With that, CURIOUS GEORGE: A HALLOWEEN BOO FEST secures its place as part of 31 Days of Halloween here on The Rock Father.

SOFIA THE FIRST has been a staple here at Rock Father HQ since it started airing on Disney Junior earlier this year. That said, my girls will be pretty excited to learn that the adventure is going beyond Enchanica, and onto the seas when SOFIA THE FIRST: THE FLOATING PALACE arrives next month. Premiering SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 24 (7:00 p.m., ET/PT) on the Disney Channel and THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 28 (7:00 p.m., ET/PT) on Disney Junior, Sofia's first primetime special features an appearance from a true Disney legend - Princess Ariel, THE LITTLE MERMAID herself. Check out a preview below...

Next year, Disney XD will begin airing their new original animated series, STAR WARS REBELS. Announced this past May (and covered on The Rock Father, here), the series takes place in the roughly 20-year gap between STAR WARS EPISODE III: REVENGE OF THE SITH and STAR WARS EPISODE IV: A NEW HOPE... in other words, an era where an Old Trilogy guy like myself could see some familiar characters out and about. The first teaser is online, and it's just that - a teaser. Watch all 15-seconds of it below...

PBS KIDS VIPOn Friday, September 27, the residents of DANIEL TIGER'S NEIGHBORHOOD will meet a new friend when Chrissie, Prince Wednesday’s 6-year-old cousin makes her first visit to The Neighborhood of Make-Believe in an all-new episode, "Daniel's New Friend/Same and Different." Chrissie plans to visit the Neighborhood frequently, and will appear on future episodes of the hit PBS KIDS show.

Disney Junior has a massive hit on it's hands with DOC McSTUFFINS, and let me emphasize the word MASSIVE. If the ratings and recent explosion of licensed merchandise weren't enough to solidify that in the minds of everyone (kids or not), the scene at Chicago's Navy Pier yesterday is the living, breathing testament to just how big this show has become. There, thousands of families gathered, waiting for hours in 90-degree+ heat, to let their children take a cruise through Doc McStuffins' Doc Mobile - a custom Airstream Trailer, pulled by a matching truck and decked-out like Doc's "office" with check-up stations and fun activities for all.
