With all the recent political rumblings about the funding of PBS, the importance and value of public broadcasting has been the subject of much discussion. As I've noted many times here in the past, the educational programming of PBS KIDS is a daily staple here in The Rock Father house. While I grew up on SESAME STREET, my daughters are learning not only from the familiar characters that inhabit the 'Street, but also from PBS KIDS fixtures like CAILLOU, SUPER WHY!, WORDWORLD, and my 3-year-old's new favorite show (practically an obsession), DANIEL TIGER'S NEIGHBORHOOD. They're far from alone, as September ratings are out and reveal that six of the top ten shows among youngsters ages 2-5 are on PBS KIDS.
After absolutely falling in love with the CARE BEARS upon the release of their latest series, WELCOME TO CARE-A-LOT (currently airing Saturday mornings on The Hub), my daughter soon demanded "more Care Bears." Dipping into the archives here at Rock Father HQ, I introduced her to the 'Bears that I grew up with via 1985's THE CARE BEAR MOVIE. Though the difference in animation and storytelling is drastically different, my little one found herself equally enthalled with what she now calls "80's Care Bears." On October 9th, that world is going to crack wide open.
Starting tonight, The Hub is celebrating the DOG DAYS OF SUMMER with a week-long celebration of all things canine. They'll be running dog-themed movies each weeknight, then cap off the week with a POUND PUPPIES MARATHON. Additionally, TRANSFORMERS PRIME returns this Friday. Check out full details and previews below!
As someone that has never been able to get into and enjoy any of the countless Trading Card Games that have been released over the past few decades, I was a bit skeptical when The Hub asked me to check out their new series, KAIJUDO: RISE OF THE DUEL MASTERS, a loose ''re-imagination'' of the long-running DUEL MASTERS card game by Wizards of the Coast. After a mysterious package arrived here at Rock Father HQ earlier this week, my daughter and I sat down to immerse ourselves in the world of KAIJUDO via the first two episodes.
One June 2, The Hub will present the first episode of CARE BEARS: WELCOME TO CARE-A-LOT, the latest in a string of reimaginings of iconic 80s franchises to land on the Hasbro-owned cable net. With POUND PUPPIES, STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE, GI JOE, and TRANSFORMERS all enjoying decent success alongside the breakout cult favorite, MY LITTLE PONY: FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC, could the CARE BEARS be the next big hit? The Rock Father and daughter were invited to take an early look at the pilot episode, so it's time to share some thoughts.
The Hub released a new preview for their upcoming CARE BEARS: WELCOME TO CARE-A-LOT this week, and it serves to solidify something that I've already noted on The Rock Father: Our family is really looking forward to the new show. Who's not excited? It seems that some followers of MY LITTLE PONY: FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC are not down with the 'Bears.
