PBS KIDS VIP I've long-held that DANIEL TIGER'S NEIGHBORHOOD is one of the top five current programs aimed at preschoolers, and this month PBS Distribution has issued an all-new, entry level collection of episodes on DVD. Airing daily on PBS KIDS, this series from The Fred Rogers Company carries on the legacy of MISTER ROGERS' NEIGHBORHOOD through the adventures of four-year-old Daniel Tiger as he learns and grows with the help of his family and friends, presenting viewers with easy-to-follow lessons that kids can relate to. WELCOME TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD is a bargain-priced DVD (list price is just $6.99) that serves up 3 episodes (one of which is the special double-episode, "Neighbor Day") and comes with a 12-piece puzzle.

PBS KIDSThis Wednesday, the Holidays officially arrive in the Neighborhood of Make-Believe with two new episodes of DANIEL TIGER'S NEIGHBORHOOD. Airing December 17 on PBS KIDS (check local listings for times), "Daniel's Winter Adventure" and "Neighborhood Nutcracker" help kids understand that if something seems hard to do, it's ok to try a little bit at a time. Check out a preview below, along with full details on both of this week's new stories.

Holiday 2014For the past couple of years, DANIEL TIGER'S NEIGHBORHOOD has been such a fixture here at Rock Father HQ that the characters of the Neighborhood of Make Believe feel like family. Having written about The Fred Rogers Company-produced series even pre-dating my own work with the PBS KIDS VIP (Very Involved Parent) team, there's an inexplicable feeling of warmth and goodness that occurs just from hearing the music alone. When the JAKKS Pacific toy line was first announced, the girls and I were excited to get our hands on some, and in the year or so that's passed, we've bought some and we've received some along the way. Heck, I've even taken Daniel with as a traveling companion, and since the girls play with their figures almost daily (they're regularly intermixed with a core group of toys here), I'm including the entire DANIEL TIGER'S NEIGHBORHOOD line in my 2014 Holiday Wish Guide here on THE ROCK FATHER.

PBS KIDS VIPAs of today, kids can meet the ODD SQUAD and start getting a jump on those math skills. Previewed this past May at the PBS Annual Meeting in San Francisco (I was there) ODD SQUAD will premiere November 26 on PBS stations, but families can now enjoy six full-length 11-minute “Case Files” from the series, as well as many additional clips that include profiles of the agents, agent training videos, recruitment videos and more, are now available for free on pbskids.org, the PBS KIDS Video App, and PBS KIDS on Roku, Apple TV, Chromecast and Amazon Fire. In addition, two games and parent resources are now available on the series’ website

PBS KIDS VIP (Very Involved Parent)Our love of DANIEL TIGER'S NEIGHBORHOOD has been well-documented here on THE ROCK FATHER, pre-dating my work with the PBS KIDS VIP (Very Involved Parent) program. From the fantastic show from The Fred Rogers Company, to the wonderful toys by JAKKS Pacific and the infectiously-good soundtracks, the adventures of Daniel and his friends have been a daily part of our lives for a few years now. For 31 Days of Halloween comes a new book from Simon & Schuster's Simon Spotlight collection - HAPPY HALLOWEEN, DANIEL TIGER! Written by series creator Angela C. Santomero, this 14-page "Lift the Flap" Board Book is perfect for youngsters preschool to second grade, bringing some pumpkin-spiced charm to the Neighborhood of Make Believe...

PBS KIDS VIP (Very Involved Parent)When PEG + CAT first landed on my radar back in May of 2013, I was attending the PBS Annual Meeting in Miami, where series creators Jennifer Oxley and Billy Aronson were on-hand to discuss their creation. With two daughters, the thought of a math-based series with a little girl as the lead was a compelling idea, and the fact that she wields a string-based instrument was a bonus. A year-and-a-half later, PEG + CAT is a true hit - a dual EMMY-winner that's watched regularly here at Rock Father HQ, with Peg's little ukulele-driven jingles a regular earworm. With the release of Chickens on the Loose and other REALLY Big Problems on DVD, the learning adventures are available at any time.
