The Jim Henson Company, who has recently and quite disappointingly been attempting to recruit writers and bloggers* into an unpaid promotional program called "The Jim Henson Family Hub" aka "The Hubbub," is following-up their rights-grab "contest" to design a new creature for their forthcoming Labyrinth series (the "winner" receives a measly pittance of just $500 in exchange for the rights to their creation) with the announcement of a new series based on the popular female action figures by IAmElemental. Henson's recent shortcomings aside, IAmElemental is a fantastic toy line - one of our favorites here at Rock Father HQ, and the announcement of a series is great news. I'm really looking forward to seeing what they'll do with this, and very happy to see the work of IAmElemental's Julie Kerwin and crew being recognized!
Last month, the Netflix Original Series JULIE'S GREENROOM premiered to stellar reviews from kids, parents and critics alike. I even featured the series in my monthly column for the Netflix #StreamTeam, and now comes word that the music from the show will soon be available for families to enjoy anytime, anywhere. Varèse Sarabande will release the JULIE’S GREENROOM – Original Netflix Series Soundtrack digitally on April 14 and on CD May 5, 2017. The soundtrack features songs performed by Broadway and screen legend Julie Andrews as well as wonderful guest stars such as Alec Baldwin, Carol Burnett, Ellie Kemper and Tony and Emmy award winning performer Dave Hyde Pierce. Also included on the soundtrack is the original score composed by Ryan Shore (PRIME, The Girl Next Door)
As we get ready to close the books on June and move into the second half of the year on an official basis, my friends at Netflix are looking toward the future, while also keeping a keen eye on where things are in the present. Earlier this month, a question was posited: Where is the craziest place that you've gone to sneak-in a Netflix fix? They even whipped-up a little chart with some common locations for sneaky streamers, and I'll fully admit to matching #1... perhaps while in the process of #2. Yes, I've maybe watched a show on the throne, but I don't make a habit of it - most of my viewing is actually right here in my office at Rock Father HQ, but it you have an interesting locale for streaming, I'd like to hear about it! So what's new from Netflix? A lot of stuff, but I'm focusing on a few pics from our family to yours, as well as one piece of news that I'm really digging...
The all-new fourth season of the EMMY-nominated and Parents’ Choice Recommended animated PBS KIDS series Dinosaur Train, kicks off with the holiday adventure “Trains, Submarines, and Zeppelins” (in tribute to the classic holiday movie “Planes, Trains, and Automobiles”). When Mr. Pteranodon and Larry go out to the Big Pond to find some red platanoids for the Winter Solstice Celebration, they accidentally miss the last train home. Will Larry and Mr. Pteranodon stop bickering long enough to figure out a way home, or will they be stranded in the middle of nowhere and miss the family Winter Solstice Celebration? Be sure to tune-in on December 7th to find out!
We're keeping the preschool (and Sprout!) vibe going for two days in a row here on my annual 31 Days of Halloween with PAJANIMALS: SPOOKY COSTUMES, a new DVD from NCircle Entertainment. On this specially-priced DVD, Cowbella is nervous about trick or treating because she doesn’t like all the scary vampires and zombies she saw at a party. A trip to Storybook Land reveals that those vampires and werewolves are just costumes that the big kids wear to have fun, just like her pretty princess costume!
Today, The Jim Henson Company celebrates its 60th Anniversary on what would've been the 79th birthday of its legendary founder. With a legacy that now spans four generations of fans, The Jim Henson Company continues to produce excellent entertainment for children and families through programs like DOOZERS (based on the world established in FRAGGLE ROCK), DINOSAUR TRAIN, SID THE SCIENCE KID, PAJANIMALS and more - all under the leadership of his children, Lisa and Brian. While no longer produced under The Jim Henson Company, his iconic characters such as The Sesame Street Muppets and the familiar cast of THE MUPPET SHOW live on as well under Sesame Workshop and Disney. In honor of this legacy, THE ROCK FATHER Magazine and The Jim Henson Company are giving readers a chance to win a fantastic assortment of Fall and Halloween-themed items from some of Henson's current properties. One (1) winner will receive four (4) DVDs, two (2) Ready-to-Read DOOZERS books, and a hardcover from the ENCHANTED SISTERS!
