I do not care for "reaction videos." That's something that I've made clear many times in the past, because despite being extraordinarily popular (and I know some folks who do quite well with them), they're just not my bag. They're fake, exaggerated and make the subjects appear to be human cartoons. In fact, I even did one that pretty much sums-up how I view every trailer, and I titled it "The World's Most Boring Reaction Video." Today, however - a slight exception in that Disney•Pixar went totally-meta and released a reaction video for their own Toy Story 4 teaser, but it's not a traditional reaction video. No, it's snarky carnival toys taking shots at Cabbage Patch Kids and Care Bears before riffing on the famous catch-phrases of Woody & Buzz Lightyear. Check it out below, and be on the lookout... I do believe we've just seen our first Easter Egg. Are those Cordoba COCO guitars on the wall?

With the release of Disney•Pixar's THE GOOD DINOSAUR into theaters last month, a milestone was celebrated - 20 years of Disney•Pixar animated feature films. It was November of 1995 when audiences first stepped inside of Andy's room to begin a decades-long series of adventures with Buzz Lightyear, Woody, Rex and an ever-expanding crew of toys - some familiar, some not. With TOY STORY as fresh as ever for new generations of audiences (fueled by cool shorts like the recent TOY STORY THAT TIME FORGOT), Disney Consumer Products has partnered with Mattel for a new collection of 20th Anniversary Toys - one of which (Andy's Room Buddies 7-Pack Figure Gift Set) arrived here at Rock Father HQ in a surprise box - packed alongside THE GOOD DINOSAUR Galloping Butch Figure by TOMY... Pixar's past and present in figure form.

When it comes to Disney•Pixar's TOY STORY franchise, one of the smartest things they've done is keep the adventures fresh with spin-off TOY STORY TOONS and TV Specials. These stand-alone adventures have been perfect for introducing new characters and keeping Buzz, Woody and all of their friends current in the minds of what is now a couple generations - two decades past the 1995 debut of the first TOY STORY feature film. While they've all been big hits here, none has hit the mark more than TOY STORY THAT TIME FORGOT - a 22-minute short film that premiered on ABC ahead of Christmas 2014. Released now on Blu-ray, Digital HD and Disney Movies Anywhere, TOY STORY THAT TIME FORGOT is a featured pick in my 2015 Holiday Wish Guide here on THE ROCK FATHER Magazine as a perfect stocking stuffer for TOY STORY-loving kids and grownups alike... especially ones that grew up in the 1980s (like me) and are raising kids right now.

There's a rumor setting the 'net on fire right now that may have some truth to it, if only because it was rumored at least once before... and now the time could be right. Film industry site The Tracking Board is reporting that Mattel is moving ahead with plans for a live-action film based on their 1988 DINO-RIDERS toys. According to Tracking Board, DINO-RIDERS is in development, with Alissa Phillips (MONEYBALL) and Stephen L’Heureux (SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR) producing for Solipsist Films. The basic gist of the original toys and animated series was about a war (a la TRANSFORMERS) between various factions of DINO-RIDERS - humans that came to Earth from other planets and turned Dinosaurs into sci-fi, weapon-wearing prehistoric warriors.

Out of all the TOY STORY Shorts and Specials that Disney•Pixar has released, last year's TOY STORY THAT TIME FORGOT is my favorite thus far. We kept it on the DVR for months following its initial airing on ABC, and this action figure-loving "big kid" had no objections to the girls wanting to watch it over and over again. After all, this "Toy Story" found our familiar friends facing off against a line of action figures that were so 80s-inspired (MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE meets STAR WARS meets DINO RIDERS), that it was practically tailor-made for my generation. On November 3rd, TOY STORY THAT TIME FORGOT comes home on Blu-ray, DVD, Digital HD and Disney Movies Anywhere.
