On November 23, Walt Disney Animation Studios' 56th feature film, MOANA, will hit theaters, presenting a new tale of adventure set against a beautiful South Pacific backdrop. Today comes a look at just four of the many books inspired by the film that will be making their way to retailers over the next few weeks, a sampling sent to Rock Father HQ by my friends at Disney Publishing. This is a cross-section of titles that represents something for the entire family. Check out the details and recommended ages below!
This Thanksgiving, one of our most-anticipated films of the year comes to theaters with the release of Walt Disney Animation Studios' MOANA. A tale of a young girl on a great adventure with a mighty demigod, the film features the voice talents of Auli‘i Cravalho, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Jemaine Clement (FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS), Rachel House, Temuera Morrison (The STAR WARS Prequels' Jango Fett), Nicole Scherzinger (Pussycat Dolls), Alan Tudyk (ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY), and was directed by Ron Clements and John Musker - the duo behind THE LITTLE MERMAID and ALADDIN. Backyard Theaters are a trend that's been picking up steam in recent years, and for good reason: Families have really been taking advantage of ways to "take the indoors outdoors," and having your own movie screen in your backyard can be a crowning achievement. While the idea might seem complicated or expensive, it certainly can be, but it hardly has to be. With a little preparation, you can enjoy the communal cinematic experience of "Movies in the Park" or an old-school Drive-In right in the comfort and freedom of your own backyard. My friends at The Walt Disney Company asked if I'd be up for starting a backyard screening series right here at Rock Father HQ, and to be honest - it was something I was already looking into doing, so when they offered to provide some tools for the kick-off, those plans got rolling fast, with a screening to celebrate the home release of ZOOTOPIA in-mind. But first, I needed a trial run.
"Three thousand years ago, the greatest sailors in the world voyaged across the vast Pacific, discovering the many islands of Oceania. But then, for a millennium, their voyages stopped – and no one knows why."
This Thanksgiving, there's a new adventure coming forth from Walt Disney Animation Studios, and a new Disney Princess unlike any that's come before, as Princess Moana Waialiki and demigod Maui set sail on a mission across the South Pacific. Check out the trailer for MOANA below!
Last year, I was fortunate to be part of the crew that was invited to Walt Disney Animation Studios to help with the promotion of the Academy Award-winning BIG HERO 6 (full coverage here). After seeing the end credits sequence of the film, which presented the world in a more 2D form, I thought that an animated series in that style would be cool, and today comes news that BIG HERO 6: THE SERIES has become a reality. The series was announced today by Gary Marsh, president and chief creative officer, Disney Channels Worldwide. Emmy Award-winning producers Mark McCorkle and Bob Schooley, creators and executive producers of the global hit Disney Channel series KIM POSSIBLE are the executive producers.
