On March 4, 2016, Walt Disney Animation Studios' ZOOTOPIA will be hitting the streets, the 55th feature from the studio behind FROZEN and BIG HERO 6. Tonight the first one-sheet poster has arrived, and I've got it for you below - a piece giving some heavy nods to New York City's Times Square... complete with a look at characters voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin, Jason Bateman and Shakira.
Having had the opportunity to visit Walt Disney Animation Studios on a few occasions, I've seen first-hand what is a truly magical place. While their yearly track record is phenomenal, with recent feature-length releases including WRECK-IT RALPH, FROZEN, BIG HERO 6 and the upcoming ZOOTOPIA, the folks at Disney Animation have continued to be champions of short-form animation, carrying on a long tradition that dates back to the earliest days of cinema. Pairing a short film as the "opening act" in front of a feature has become something that families look forward to, and while those shorts have been included on home video releases of their long-form counterparts, now those released in the 21st Century (thus far) are featured in an all-new collection, just-out on Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD and Disney Movies Anywhere.
A dozen Disney shorts have come together, with the focal point and finale undoubtedly FROZEN FEVER - coming home for the first time, even ahead of the live-action CINDERELLA Blu-ray, on which it will also be included. The Walt Disney Animation Studios Short Films Collection is an absolute must-have for any family.
When I first heard about Walt Disney Animation Studios' ZOOTOPIA, the first thing that popped into my mind was the 1993 album by U2. Except, that was ZOOROPA, the album that spawned such weird singles as "Numb" and "Lemon." ZOOTOPIA is, in fact, the 55th feature from Disney Animation, one that finds Jason Bateman and Ginnifer Goodwin toplining the voice cast of a comedic adventure set in a world where humans never came into existence... but animals evolved into a civilized form. Check out the teaser below...
If you're a fan of Walt Disney Animation Studios' FROZEN, you're no doubt awaiting more information about the development of FROZEN 2. While that's a little hard to come by, more cool collectibles based in the world of Arendelle continue to be released, and perhaps none are cuter than the Hallmark itty bittys. While Anna and Elsa have been available for a little bit now, they'll soon have company, as their friends Sven and Olaf are making their way into Hallmark Gold Crown Stores later this month. The duo joins an exciting 2015 itty bittys lineup that features characters from Disney, along with STAR WARS, PEANUTS, MUPPETS, DC Comics and more (get a full checklist here). The Rock Daughters recently received a pair in advance, and their appeal is undeniable...
On my visits to The Walt Disney Studios and Walt Disney Animation Studios, I've noticed the life-sized FIX IT FELIX JR. machines (perhaps the same machine) in two different locations. Built to promote the release of WRECK-IT RALPH back in 2012, the FIX IT FELIX JR. games are based largely upon DONKEY KONG JR., and present a true throwback to classic arcade gaming. The girls and I recently made a Papercraft FIX IT FELIX JR. machine using printer paper and a template found on DeviantArt (an alternate plan exists on Disney's official site). The end result is a little sloppy, but it's perfectly-scaled for 3 ¾" action figures, and inspired this photo. "Meanwhile at The Walt Disney Studios Offices..."
The first official follow-up to Disney's FROZEN arrives in theaters this weekend as FROZEN FEVER plays opener to the live-action CINDERELLA. While kids like my own have been repeatedly tantalized by a 40-second trailer, the 10-minute short film is just an appetizer - FROZEN 2 is officially official. The announcement was made this morning at Disney’s Annual Meeting of Shareholders by Bob Iger, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company; John Lasseter, Chief Creative Officer of Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios; and actor Josh Gad, who provides the voice of Olaf.
