Since it's launch last year, the Disney Princess line of building sets from LEGO has slowly, but steadily been gaining a foothold here at Rock Father HQ. We've built a variety, from the now-retired Ariel's Amazing Treasures, to Rapunzel's Creativity Tower (reviewed here) and Cinderella's Romantic Castle. Our most recent build from this world comes from the Kingdom of Arendelle, with the first-ever LEGO set based on Walt Disney Animation Studios' Academy Award-winning FROZEN. Officially released on January 1st, we managed to score Elsa's Sparkling Ice Castle (#41062) a few days early on a post-Christmas visit to Toys "R" Us, and after teasing our build on the socials (here & here), it's time for a proper review right here on the site.
Today is National Hugging Day (held every year on January 21), and for 2015 (after much deliberation and even more hugging), Baymax, the lovable personal companion robot and star of Walt Disney Animation Studios' Academy Award-Nominated film BIG HERO 6 was today named "Most Huggable Character of 2015"! To celebrate, a new montage of Baymax's "most huggable moments" has been released and can be seen below. According to the Ambassador of Hugs, Kevin Zaborney (founder and creator of National Hugging Day), Baymax humbly accepted the award from his residence in San Fransokyo where he attributed the honor to his “non-threatening, huggable design” and said he looks forward to spending the upcoming year giving and receiving hugs from all.
Have your kids fallen in love with Baymax yet? We just bought the Disney Infinity Baymax figure at GameStop last week, and my girls have been rockin' their matching Baymax shirts from Disney Store since last Fall - even before BIG HERO 6 arrived in theaters. Now, families will be able to re-live the adventure again and again as Walt Disney Animation Studios' BIG HERO 6 comes home on Digital HD/Disney Movies Anywhere on February 3, followed by a Blu-ray/DVD release on February 24th! Check out all the specs below, right here on THE ROCK FATHER, and... would you like to see some FROZEN Easter Eggs? Oh yes, Arendelle is ever-present in BIG HERO 6...
Disney sure knows how to keep things front-and-center. Just days after FROZEN officially turned one, Walt Disney Animation Studios has revealed that their all-new short FROZEN FEVER, will welcome Anna, Elsa, Kristoff and Olaf back to the big screen on March 13, 2015. The short will serve as the opening act for CINDERELLA, the all-new live-action film inspired by the 1950 animated classic. FROZEN FEVER finds Elsa and Kristoff plotting to give Elsa a birthday party to remember, but those icy powers just might put a freeze on things.
Though it just turned one last week, Walt Disney Animation Studios' FROZEN is here to stay, and now - for the first time in forever - audiences can enjoy the FROZEN Sing-along Edition on DVD, just in-time for the Holidays! To celebrate, Disney and THE ROCK FATHER have teamed-up for a Holiday Wish Guide Giveaway where readers can enter for a chance to score this new version of FROZEN to enjoy in their own home. Do you want to build a snowman... or let it go, again?
Given how big a Global cultural phenomenon it's become, it's almost hard to imagine that it was just one year ago today - November 27, 2013 - that Walt Disney Animation Studios' FROZEN first hit theaters. A year out, and FROZEN has officially toppled Barbie to be the biggest doll line (with MONSTER HIGH close behind), has inspired countless YouTube videos, parodies and tributes - and has managed to sell over three million Elsa dresses (at least one to me). Out of all the films I could've done a press trip for, I was fortunate to be included in the group of writers to visit Walt Disney Animation Studios to help promote the first home video release of FROZEN earlier this year, and now seems like a perfect time to do a recap - this being the first anniversary of the forever-classic - along with five of the best ROCK cover versions of "Let It Go," the iconic song that has made Idina Menzel a household name. Ready to "Let It Go" again?
