And you thought I was done covering FROZEN for a bit? Think again! On November 18, Walt Disney Animation Studio's Academy Award-winning pop culture sensation rings in the holiday season with the release of the FROZEN Sing-Along Edition on DVD + Digital Combo Pack (no Blu-ray, it seems). Available for pre-order now at Disney Store, this is the version that became a last-minute phenomenon that I discussed with filmmakers Jennifer Lee, Chris Buck and Peter Del Vecho back in February - put together after plans for the initial DVD/Blu-ray release were already in motion. Check out a just-released announcement trailer via Facebook right now.
I don't think I'll ever be able to stop writing about FROZEN here on THE ROCK FATHER. In fact, it's almost unbelievable that the movie only hit theaters nine months ago. That said, Idina Menzel's now iconic rendition of "Let It Go" continues to inspire, with over six million (I made that number up) cover versions currently posted to YouTube. Now, I've noted on several occasions that my favorite comes from THE LAST SLEEPLESS CITY, who rocked it up Pop Punk style a few months back (hear it here), and that hasn't changed - but I guarantee you haven't heard "Let It Go" like I'm about to share. From Sumerian Records comes BETRAYING THE MARTYRS' metallic take on the song. It's harsh - not kid-friendly, and might turn some of you off, but I dig what they did with the chorus around the 1:01 mark. The dueling clean/harsh vocals are interesting, indeed. Check out the new video below, and if you dig the song, download it on Amazon or iTunes.
One of my most-anticipated films of the fourth quarter is Walt Disney Animation Studios' first foray into the MARVEL World with BIG HERO 6. Having seen a hallway that was teasing, yet being quite protective of the film during my February visit to the studios, my interest is piqued, and tonight I've got the first full trailer, and your first look at character profiles and the voice cast reveal, right here on THE ROCK FATHER. The trailer is pretty rockin', and it's even got Chicago's own FALL OUT BOY lending a tune...

There've been several running themes that I've revisited on occasion here on THE ROCK FATHER over the past few years, and one of the biggest is the importance of imaginative play. Especially right now, in the summer months - when so many would just surrender the little ones to a tablet or smartphone - it's important to get the kids outside and let their imaginations run wild. Playing dress-up is a classic tradition that works indoors and out no matter what the season, but when the weather is good, we need to take advantage of it. Actually, I posted about this very subject exactly one year ago, and now that Little Finn is mobile and can join big sister Addie in the action, we've been revisiting a favorite locale... but under a new theme. Two little girls... two young sisters... completely enamored with Walt Disney Animation Studios' FROZEN. I present to you, Anna and Elsa: Arendelle In Summer, featuring Adalyn as Elsa, and Finley in her new Deluxe Anna costume, graciously provided by my friends at BuyCostumes.com.
On November 7th, the first property to cross-over into Disney Animation from the MARVEL comics world will arrive when BIG HERO 6 - the 54th Feature from Walt Disney Animation Studios - hits theaters. Tonight, a new poster for the film hit my inbox here at Rock Father HQ, so I'm sharing it with you below...
It's Memorial Day, and while the BBQ action is about to heat up nearly everywhere, I'm taking the opportunity to catch-up on the goings on from that "Magical World"... the "House of Mouse"... the home to the Muppets, STAR WARS and MARVEL... The Walt Disney Company. There's been a lot of great news from the various divisions of Disney over the past week, and here's a round-up that you need to check out!
