ABC & Mattel Prepare to Open THE TOY BOX...

Written by

This special look at #TheToyBox is presented in collaboration with ABC and The Rock Father™.

Despite the fact that most American homes have toys in them (even those that are sans-kids), the general public still seems to know fairly little about the toy industry and how it works. Each year, thousands of toys hit the market, and for every one that makes it from development to production, there's dozens more that have been pitched and failed. While most toymakers have in-house development teams, a good portion of new toys are developed by independent inventors or design studios who turn around and either sell or license their creations to one of the major companies. As a toy reviewer myself, I see a ton of toys come into The Toy Testing Facility at Rock Father HQ™ each year, and I'm always on the lookout for current and upcoming trends in play (I'm also on the Parent Advisory Panel for The Toy Insider and have served as a Play Influencer for the Chicago Toy & Game Fair). That said, when ABC invited me to take an early look at their new competition series, THE TOY BOX (premiering TONIGHT, FRIDAY, APRIL 7 from 8:00–9:00 p.m. EDT on ABC), I was intrigued - especially since I was able to see it in the screening room at Pixar Animation Studios with Jen Tan, Creative Director of Consumer Products for Pixar - a mentor on the show. The premise: Toy inventors present their concepts to a group of mentors and a panel of judges (kids!) with an ultimate goal of making it to the finals, where the winning toy will be produced by Mattel and sold exclusively at Toys "R" Us immediately following the season finale.

Bad Lip Reading is one of YouTube's finest channels, and one permanently marked with "legendary" status here at Rock Father HQ thanks to their Star Wars parody, SEAGULLS! (Stop It Now) - A Bad Lip Reading of The Empire Strikes Back. Our four-year-old has the song and it's dialogue breaks completely memorized. Now comes a new trip into a galaxy far, far away with THE FORCE AWAKENS: A Bad Lip Reading (featuring Mark Hamill as Han Solo). It's almost overdue that they're just now getting to THE FORCE AWAKENS, but it's a good clip - one in which Han Solo (indeed, voiced by Luke Skywalker himself) has a language barrier issue with Admiral Ackbar (who's first name is "Bill"), in addition to some pretty exciting moments while looking for the gift shop at Starkiller Base alongside Rey, Finn and Chewbacca. Win 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' on Digital HD!

Written by

After bringing audiences back to a galaxy far, far away this past winter, Gareth Edwards' Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has officially come home! Ripped from the opening crawl of 1977's Star Wars - Episode IV: A New Hope comes the tale of the Rebel spies who risked it all to steal the plans for The Empire's ultimate weapon, The Death Star! To celebrate the release, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment and The Rock Father™ are giving you a shot at winning the film on Digital HD!

Netflix Stream TeamI've often said that "we're living in a Golden Age of television for kids and family" audiences, and that sentiment is one that bears repeating. Changes in culture and viewing habits have forced change among content creators, and competition has been a great thing for audiences as the quality and diversity of programming has really seen a huge uptick over the past few years. For Netflix in particular, the focus on kids and family has been a big one, and their partnerships have spawned some incredible things - from educational and entertaining, to adventurous and action-packed... and sometimes, all of the above, there's something for every taste. Here's some Rock Father Picks for the Spring of 2017!

The Rock Father™ has collaborated with Lucasfilm for the #RogueOneDigital launch.

With the release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, it was confirmed that cinematic audiences were more than ready to embrace Star Wars stories beyond the "Saga" lineage and ties to the Skywalker clan. Director Gareth Edwards brought to life a compelling film spawned from the opening crawl of 1977's Star Wars: A New Hope, presenting on the big screen for the first time a type of adventure that was previously only explored in ancillary storytelling like books and games. After revisiting Rogue One now that it's come home on Digital HD and Disney Movies Anywhere, I realized just how much the film has both captured and reignited my interest in the characters that live slightly to the side of our main heroes - an interest that directly relates to what I loved about the original trilogy growing up.

Does the suit make the man? That's the question pondered in the latest trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming - the first feature-length collaboration between Sony and Disney that finds Spidey making his way into the Marvel Cinematic Universe after making his debut in Captain America: Civil War last year. Here we find Peter Parker (Tom Holland) having some issues with authority, particularly that of Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) and The Avengers. Take a look...

After a San Diego Comic-Con sneak-preview last summer, the first official trailer for Warner Bros' JUSTICE LEAGUE is finally here. This long-awaited installment of the DC Extended Universe will arrive in theaters this November, uniting Batman (Ben Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and The Flash (Ezra Miller), and while he's absent from this trailer and the marketing, you can bet we see a rebirth of Superman (Henry Cavill) at some point. After all, while he was sacrificed at the end of last year's Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, the familiar "S" is present on the film's official website, and it's long-been known that Kal-El never stays down for long. Check out the trailer below...

The Rock Father™ has collaborated with Lucasfilm for the #RogueOneDigital launch! #TeamRebel

RSVP for a chance to win prizes here! It's no secret that I'm a lifelong Star Wars fan, but when it comes to taking sides, sometimes the battle chooses for you. In this case, I will be representing #TeamRebel during the Star Wars #RogueOneDigital Twitter Party Battle - taking place this Sunday, March 26, 2017 at 4 pm PST /7 pm EST.  This is a LIVE VIEWING EVENT, and at 7pm ET, all participants will press "play" on their Digital HD copies of Gareth Edwards' Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, immediately becoming immersed in both a galaxy far, far away, and a growing war of words (and memes!) in the Twitterverse. Hosted by @MagicalSiblings@DawnChats, lines will be drawn as various writers, bloggers and digital personalities engage in live-tweeting Rogue One as representatives of either #TeamRebel or #TeamEmpire. Don't forget, @TheRockFather is #TeamRebel! We'll be celebrating the early release of Rogue One on Disney Movies Anywhere and Digital HD, ahead of the April 4th debut on Blu-ray™ Combo Pack, DVD and On-Demand. Join my team on Sunday, and let's fight The Galactic Empire with the true power of The Rebel Alliance! Stay tuned for an RSVP and list of participants, but in the meantime, download Rogue One on Digital HD, and check out the bonus features below...

It's National Puppy Day, so what better day than today to debut the first trailer for a show called Puppy Dog Pals? Coming to Disney Junior on April 14 (10:30 a.m. EDT), Puppy Dog Pals was created by comedian Harland Williams, and will debut with two back-to-back episodes on Disney Channel and will also become available that day on the Disney Junior app and YouTube page. The show follows two fun-loving pug brothers, Bingo and Rolly, whose thrill-seeking appetites take them on exhilarating adventures throughout their neighborhood and around the globe. Williams also serves as consulting producer and writer and voices the role of Bob, the pups' devoted owner. Sean Coyle ("The Awesomes," "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse") serves as executive producer. Stay tuned, as I'll be checking out more from Puppy Dog Pals at the #Cars3Event next week (details here), but in the meantime, check out the trailer below!

Heroes are all around us… Who is Your Hero?

Written by

The Rock Father™ has collaborated with Life of Dad and Marvel for the #WhoIsYourHero initiative.

Look closely. They’re all around us…

Though some might be operating in unexpected places - many even out of the normal scope of view - there are heroes everywhere.

While the colorful characters that inhabit the pages of Marvel Comics continue making the leap to screens big and small in new installments of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and a host of television series’ both live-action and animated, the legendary accomplishments of these Super (or even “mystic,” looking at you, Doctor Strange) Heroes often pale in comparison to that of the real-life heroes that we encounter every day.
