TRANSFORMERS PRIME BEAST HUNTERS coming in 2013...

Written by

First a story about G.I Joe, and now I get to write about TRANSFORMERS in the same day? Indeed, that's the case as Hasbro has announced that the focus for TRANSFORMERS in 2013 will be TRANSFORMERS PRIME BEAST HUNTERS. With little ones here in The Rock Father house, we're more in RESCUE BOTS mode, but Daddy still checks out the bigger bots on frequent occasion. In fact, I actually own a one-of-a-kind Optimus Prime that came to me direct from the Hasbro Design Team back in '07 (for a little something I did for G4). As for the new BEAST HUNTERS, what are they all about? Read on...

On November 25, 2015, just in-time for the 65th Anniversary of the debut of the PEANUTS comic strip and the 50th Anniversary of A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS, the iconic PEANUTS Gang will make their big-screen debut. Earlier today it was announced that Twentieth Century Fox Animation and Blue Sky Studios have acquired rights to make a feature film based on the famous characters by the late Charles Schulz. As a Dad that has previously made special trips to Hallmark stores to acquire a plush SNOOPY for his daughter, you can bet that I'll be taking the munchkins to see this.

31 Days of Halloween: MONSTER HIGH - GHOULS RULE

Written by

Since launching The Rock Father last year, I've had a few people ask me why I've never covered MONSTER HIGH. "You have daughters..." Yes. "You love monsters..." Yes. But quite simply, my daughters are a little young to fall into the target demographic for the popular line of Mattel toys, so not having them in the house (yet), they hadn't hit the site. That changes today with the release of MONSTER HIGH: GHOULS RULE, an original CGI movie released in partnership between Mattel and Universal Studios Home Entertainment.

With the November 2 release date of Walt Disney Animation Studios' WRECK-IT RALPH fast-approaching, the viral marketing is in full-swing. Today marks the arrival of this "vintage" 1982 Litwak's Arcade Commercial for "Fix-It Felix Jr. featuring Wreck-It Ralph." Check out the 8-bit goodness below. Will you be taking your kids to see WRECK-IT RALPH this November?

It's been 50 years since THE BERENSTAIN BEARS first arrived with the publication of THE BIG HONEY HUNT, a book that launched what would become a lasting legacy of children's entertainment. While we have a few different Berenstain books here at Rock Father HQ, it's the cartoon (which currently airs on PBS Kids' Sprout) that my oldest daughter most identifies with. In the spirit of the season, the folks over at Phase 4 Films have issued THE BERENSTAIN BEARS' SPOOKY STORIES (50th Anniversary Edition) on DVD through their KaBOOM! Entertainment.

With a 3-year-old and a newborn in the house, Winnie the Pooh is everywhere. From books to movies to plush toys, it would seem that the oldest can't get enough of Pooh and his pals from the Hundred Acre Wood. In fact, I actually do a pretty solid version of Pooh Bear's voice, and find myself performing the character on a fairly regular basis. As for the movies, we have several on DVD and Blu-Ray, but October means it's time for WINNIE THE POOH'S HEFFALUMP HALLOWEEN MOVIE.

In the wake of last night's Presidential Debate and the subsequent wave of attention cast upon BIG BIRD, SESAME STREET, and the value of PBS, the folks at Sesame Workshop have issued a statement. Originally posted this afternoon as "Sesame Workshop's Statement Regarding Political Campaigns," the statement was added-to and retitled, "Sesame Workshop's Statement on Our Partnership With PBS." Read it below...

After absolutely falling in love with the CARE BEARS upon the release of their latest series, WELCOME TO CARE-A-LOT (currently airing Saturday mornings on The Hub), my daughter soon demanded "more Care Bears." Dipping into the archives here at Rock Father HQ, I introduced her to the 'Bears that I grew up with via 1985's THE CARE BEAR MOVIE. Though the difference in animation and storytelling is drastically different, my little one found herself equally enthalled with what she now calls "80's Care Bears." On October 9th, that world is going to crack wide open.

After being less-than-impressed with the "sneak preview" of the new NBC comedy, GUYS WITH KIDS earlier this month, I was reluctant to give the show another shot.  Somehow or another, my DVR decided to record the second episode of the show as it made it's way into NBC's new Wednesday Night lineup for it's "official" premiere this week, so I decided to check it out. Sadly, the second serving was worse than the first.

PBS Kids' Sprout is hands-down, the #1 network for regular viewing here in The Rock Father household. My three-year-old demands it, and if Caillou and Sesame Street weren't enough, The Goodnight Show and The Sunny Side Up Show bookend the day with programming goodness. As for the latter, Chica is the star attraction, and this Fall she's getting her own show. As a tease, Sprout has released a parody of NBC's THE VOICE in which Chica and friends face some tough judges. Get ready for THE SQUEAK...

NBC's GUYS WITH KIDS - The Rock Father Pilot Review

Written by

Last night, NBC got their Fall Season started a little early with sneak-peeks at the pilot episodes of two new comedies, THE NEW NORMAL (not about being a Dad, but using an oft-used term for "Stay at home Dads" as it's title) and the Dad-centric, GUYS WITH KIDS. I'm not a big sitcom guy, and while I skipped 'Normal, I had GUYS WITH KIDS set to record on the DVR for later viewing, lured by it's subject matter and Jimmy Fallon's involvement in the series. After viewing it this afternoon, I can confidently say that GUYS WITH KIDS will be a big hit... but not with guys with kids.

As someone that has never been able to get into and enjoy any of the countless Trading Card Games that have been released over the past few decades, I was a bit skeptical when The Hub asked me to check out their new series, KAIJUDO: RISE OF THE DUEL MASTERS, a loose ''re-imagination'' of the long-running DUEL MASTERS card game by Wizards of the Coast. After a mysterious package arrived here at Rock Father HQ earlier this week, my daughter and I sat down to immerse ourselves in the world of KAIJUDO via the first two episodes.
