THE HUB NETWORK just hit THE ROCK FATHER with news that the mid-season return of SABRINA SECRETS OF A TEENAGE WITCH will take place on March 15 at 12 p.m. ET/9 a.m. PT. The series returns with all-new episodes featuring voice star Ashley Tisdale (PHINEAS AND FERB, SCARY MOVIE 5, HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 3) as Sabrina.
Whenever I write about Caillou here on THE ROCK FATHER, I usually tend to include a little preface - a wee bit of background, if you will - about how loved the divisive little four-year-old is here at Rock Father HQ. You see, what usually happens is that a Caillou post lures out of the woodwork these... people - people that like to complain about the little guy for no better reason other than complaining. They're sorta like a clique - one comprised largely of the uninformed that's never actually watched and absorbed the show. They just say "He's whiny" (in a pretty whiny voice themselves), and then they scurry back into whatever hole they crawled out of (and then I delete their comments). Yes, this is a pro-Caillou household, and for those of you unfamiliar, that little "E/I" big in the corner? That means "educational and informational," and not any show can get it. It's a badge of honor bestowed upon certain shows by the FCC - and CAILLOU has it. My reason for the rundown today? CAILLOU'S GARDEN ADVENTURES just hit DVD via my friends at PBS KIDS and DHX Media.
With the home release of Disney's FROZEN fast-approaching (it comes out on March 18), it's hard to believe that this cinematic and cultural juggernaut just hit theatres a mere three months ago. While I've been promising a Rock Father-style in-depth look at the making of the film (it's coming - stay tuned!), today comes a preview of the bonus features to be found when the Blu-ray hits the streets. Watch as Josh Gad ('Olaf') and Jonathan Groff ('Kristoff') sing about the making of FROZEN... while not really telling you how they made FROZEN. Just take a look...
On April 15, Universal Studios Home Entertainment will release THE NUT JOB on Blu-ray 3D and Blu-ray Combo Pack including Blu-ray, DVD, & DIGITAL HD with UltraViolet as well as On Demand. The recent animated film stars Will Arnett (Batman in THE LEGO MOVIE, the upcoming TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES) as the voice of Surly, "a mischievous squirrel on a mission to prove himself."
Last night, MARVEL debuted the first trailer for director James Gunn's GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. For those unfamiliar, this tale takes the MARVEL Cinematic Universe to new (and weirder) locales far beyond the superhero action that casual fans are used to, following the adventures of some colorful and very alien characters. Earlier this week, I previewed the new line of action toys that Hasbro was showing off at New York Toy Fair (see them here), and now, thanks to Jimmy Kimmel Live, the new trailer can be viewed below. Check it out...
While the specifics have not yet been revealed, StarVista Entertainment/Time-Life have announced a 2014 release for THE WONDER YEARS: THE COMPLETE SERIES on DVD. The hit ABC series, which starred Fred Savage, Danica McKellar, Dan Lauria, Alley Mills, Jason Hervey, Olivia d'Abo, Josh Saviano and Daniel Stern has been a frequently-requested title, as it's never been available in it's entirety.
It was only a matter of time, and that time is now... the folks over at Disney Store are ushering in a new galaxy of awesome with an exclusive collection of STAR WARS merchandise, just-launched and available now from (my affiliate) DisneyStore.com. Already stocked with 77 items (appropriate when you think about 1977... or 5-25-77), there's something for the entire family from STAR WARS RACERS (Die-cast cars based on the AT-AT, Darth Maul, C-3PO and more) to clothing for kids and grownups, banks, blasters, and plush, the new STAR WARS collection at Disney Store is well-worth a look. Here's a taste...
It's an in-between week for new family media titles, with some decent stuff hitting retail but no single "blockbuster" title to lead the charge. But that doesn't mean that the offerings aren't worth a look, as there's a trio of new DVDs from SESAME STREET along with BEWARE THE BATMAN, STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE, GARFIELD, DR. SUESS and a bunch of bargain-priced reissues. And, if you'd like to "Think Spring," there's new Easter titles from PETER RABBIT, PETER COTTONTAIL, and Nickelodeon's DORA THE EXPLORER. Here's what's hitting the streets today, February 18, 2014.
As I've previously mentioned here on THE ROCK FATHER, February 25 will be a big day for fans of DANIEL TIGER'S NEIGHBORHOOD, as the first two volumes of the hit PBS KIDS series arrive on DVD with the release of DANIEL'S BIG FEELINGS and LIFE'S LITTLE LESSONS. Now comes word that the week leading up to the release will be jam-packed with new episodes as Daniel's Big Feelings Week kicks-off this Monday, February 17 on PBS KIDS (check local listings for times). Below you'll find all the details and some brand-new clips!
Earlier this week, as I had the opportunity to visit Walt Disney Studios, one film that I got to pull back the curtain on was one I couldn't mention right away because it's home video release wasn't officially announced yet. That changes today, with word that SAVING MR. BANKS will arrive on Blu-ray™ + Digital Copy, DVD, Digital HD, and On-Demand on March 18th. The film is a look at the making of MARY POPPINS, along with studio life during that classic era of Disney filmmaking. While the official details follow below, stay tuned for some exclusive SAVING MR. BANKS content, coming to THE ROCK FATHER in mid-March.
When I was out in Los Angeles this week, some news hit my phone that was at the same instance, both exciting and disturbing. The folks at Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment had issued a press release informing writers that what is arguably both the greatest Christmas film of all-time and the greatest Arnold Schwarzenegger film of all-time is getting a sequel. JINGLE ALL THE WAY 2, a follow-up to the 1996 classic is headed our way for Christmas 2014, and the news came courtesy of an announcement that also includes the fourth installment of the MARINE franchise in partnership with WWE Studios.
I always say this, but it's interesting delving into cinematic worlds as a parent that I haven't entered since being a child myself. Disney's THE JUNGLE BOOK is one of those worlds, a film released countless times over, yet somehow escaping my purchase (unlike certain films that I've owned multiple times on whatever the latest format). Oddly enough, THE JUNGLE BOOK is one film that always should've been in my collection, if only for it's musical pedigree. In fact, it's the swingin' soundtrack that really propels the film, with several songs by the Sherman Brothers (MARY POPPINS, WINNIE THE POOH), and the iconic, Louis Prima-sung "I Wan'na Be Like You (The Monkey Song)" becoming an oft-covered standard (I love the BIG BAD VOODOO DADDY version). That aside, there's a classic Rudyard Kipling story at it's heart, and experiencing THE JUNGLE BOOK again for the first time in probably 25-30 years - but this time with my girls - was a treat.
