I've seen some "numbers" (ratings and stats) regarding the appeal of Disney Junior's SOFIA THE FIRST, JAKE AND THE NEVER LAND PIRATES and DOC McSTUFFINS over these past few years, but nothing embodies just how big these shows have become more than a crowd of 2,000 kids and grownups singing along to their favorite songs. That was the scene at the Rosemont Theatre outside of Chicago tonight, where the Feld Entertainment production of Disney Junior Live On Tour! Pirate & Princess Adventure has settled in for the weekend.
April is Earth Month, and as we eagerly await warmer weather and the emergence of "green" in the area around Rock Father HQ, now comes news that my friends at PBS KIDS are getting ready to celebrate with a month of Earth-themed programming, and it all kicks off on April 7 in partnership with The National Recreation and Park Association as the "Explore the Outdoors" initiative. Check out all the details below, right here on THE ROCK FATHER...
I'm a big fan of Walt Disney Animation Studios' FROZEN, and if you've been reading THE ROCK FATHER lately, then you already know that... and that the folks from Disney recently had me pay them a visit on Mickey's dime. I've spent time with the filmmakers, the CG department, and even my first Daddy/Daughter Dance was Arendelle-themed. While I have a few more personal tales from the world of FROZEN to tell, my friends at Disney are letting me get one of YOU hooked-up with the new Blu-ray Combo Pack, which will hit stores on March 18th. That way your family can keep reliving the Oscar-winning goodness over and over again, just as we have been here at Rock Father HQ this week. Would you like to build a snowman?
Last month, I gave you the details on SABRINA SECRETS OF A TEENAGE WITCH returning to The Hub Network for a new run of all-new episodes. Well, the action gets started this Saturday, March 15th at 12pm ET/9am PT, and the folks at The Hub have provided THE ROCK FATHER with a pair of clips from "Sabrina the Troll Princess," featuring voice star Ashley Tisdale (PHINEAS AND FERB, SCARY MOVIE 5, HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 3) as Sabrina. Take a look...
On March 25, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment will unleash WALKING WITH DINOSAURS: The Movie on Blu-ray and DVD (it's out now on Digital HD). To celebrate the home release of this new family adventure, we're giving you a chance to win a copy of it on Blu-ray Combo Pack.

Alright, so I'm a little bit late in posting this week's new release listing. But, it's still Tuesday for a couple more hours here at Rock Father HQ, so I figure I'm still within my own self-imposed limits. After all, who do I work for? That's right, myself! Well, but technically, (everything I do) I do it for you - like Bryan Adams' terrible song from that ROBIN HOOD movie with Clark Kent's Dad. Now I'm just being silly, but if you're looking for what's new in home video releases this week, then I have what you need... highlights of all the family titles that have arrived at retail as of today. There's TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES, LEGO STAR WARS, WINNIE THE POOH, TRANSFORMERS and more. Check out the list below!
No, you are not reading that incorrectly. The VERONICA MARS movie won't hit theaters until this Friday (March 14 - Get Tickets and Showtimes), but Warner Bros. and THE ROCK FATHER have teamed-up to give YOU a shot at winning the DVD, right now! While the disc isn't expected to hit the streets until sometime in May, this is your chance to lock yours in by taking a chance and trying your luck. Now, if you missed out on the three seasons of the show that spawned the movie, Pivot will be airing a 23-hour marathon on March 12 to help get you up to speed. Otherwise, read on for your chance to enter!
On May 30, 2014, Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures will release MALEFICIENT, a new tale woven around the iconic baddie from the classic, 1959 film, SLEEPING BEAUTY. With Angelina Jolie slipping into the title role (and unforgettable horns), anticipation is building, and today comes the release of an all-new theatrical poster for the film. Check out the latest one-sheet below, right here on THE ROCK FATHER.
For most, the art of "rigging" is something unfamiliar, a term that may bring to mind other professions like those in the maritime or theatrical fields. In reality, they're all connected, but instead of using physical ropes and cables, animation riggers use programs like Maya as tools of their trade. "Without rigging, our characters are really nothing more than digital sculptures," explained Frank Hanner, the Character CG Supervisor on Disney's FROZEN, while speaking to a group of writers on a recent visit to Walt Disney Animation Studios. "It really is the Rigger's job to bring them to life, and they do that by building skeletons of the characters, and finding a way to attach muscles and skin. Finally, they build a set of animation controls that allow the animators to push and pull the characters around." Hmmm, but are they sure that it was wise to hand the keys (a mouse and keyboard, to be specific) to THE ROCK FATHER? If you ever wondered if that lovable snowman Olaf could ROCK, I just might have the answer.
On April 1, my friends at Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment will release THE PIRATE FAIRY, the latest production to come from DisneyToon Studios (PLANES). A new installment of the Disney Fairies series, THE PIRATE FAIRY falls in-line as both a sequel to those films, and also a prequel to a true Disney classic, 1953's PETER PAN. While it's currently being shown in a limited theatrical engagement in Los Angeles, most will have to wait a few weeks to experience it... but if you want an early taste, here's a five-minute sneak preview to enjoy, right here on THE ROCK FATHER.
"I like this. I like the music and singing." That's the official trailer review for the 2014 reimagining of ANNIE, as viewed at Rock Father HQ by four year-old Addie this morning. Maybe it's not a huge stretch of the imagination, but I'm a musical fan. THE MUSIC MAN, GUYS AND DOLLS, WHITE CHRISTMAS (I'd actually be up for appearing in remakes of any of those), and with films like FROZEN being so hot right now, maybe a new generation is catching the bug. This Christmas, a new version of ANNIE arrives on the big screen from Columbia Pictures, and I've got the trailer below...
Before it even made it's debut back in 2012 (and before I became one of the PBS KIDS VIP Bloggers), I was excited about DANIEL TIGER'S NEIGHBORHOOD. Continuing the legacy of Fred Rogers, and set within the familiar Neighborhood of Make Believe, the adventures of Daniel and his friends fast became one of the most-watched programs here at Rock Father HQ. With perfectly-sized episodes, each with a valuable lesson for preschoolers, and some of the best music you'll find in children's programming, the show is a hit on several levels, and though I've said this before, I feel I need to say it again: I don't think that there's another show that my kids watch that makes me feel good in the way that DANIEL TIGER'S NEIGHBORHOOD does.
