FREE BIRDS is Gobbling it's way to Blu-ray...

Written by

This past November, I took my oldest to check out a screening of FREE BIRDS as part of a promotion that I was doing with Chuck E. Cheese's. Addie and her little friend dug it, and now we'll be able to re-live what just might be a new staple of the Thanksgiving season... in-time for Valentine's Day. The folks at 20th Century Fox have officially announced the Blu-ray and DVD release of FREE BIRDS for February 4, 2014. Check out the specs below, and for more upcoming releases, visit my ongoing list of what's hot for families.

This past Friday, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment officially announced a March 18 release date for FROZEN on Blu-ray and DVD. The title had already been featured in my ongoing list of upcoming home video releases for families, but now we know exactly when you'll be able to experience it at home. Having missed it in theaters (I told Addie I'd take her and it just didn't happen), we're really looking forward to it. Full specs on that release, along with updates on additional Disney releases below...

POW! 48 Years Ago Today, BATMAN Premiered on ABC...

Written by

Holy Retro Pop Culture, Batman! 48 years ago today - Wednesday, January 12, 1966, BATMAN premiered on ABC for the first of 120 episodes of campy, Caped Crusader goodness. Like many, I grew up watching it in re-runs on WFLD Channel 32 here in Chicago, a staple of 1980s post-school viewing. As a parent, I've introduced my little ones to the series via the 1966 feature-length film on DVD, with hopes that we'll eventually see the long-awaited proper Blu-ray and DVD release... which seems to become rumored at least once a year.

Disney on IceFor my local friends here near Rock Father HQ in Chicagoland, the folks at Feld Entertainment (I'm working with US Family Guide as a Feld Family Ambassador) are bringing Disney on Ice presents Let's Celebrate! to town later this month. The show will take place at Allstate Arena in Rosemont Jan 22 - Jan 26 & United Center in Chicago Jan 29 - Feb 9. I've got all the details, along with discount ticket info for you below...

On February 25th, the folks at Shout! Factory Kids will be releasing TRANSFORMERS PRIME: ULTIMATE BUMBLEBEE as a low-priced DVD exclusive to Walmart Stores. This disc features the kid-favorite Autobot in four adventures, and retails for under ten bucks. Check out the full specs and announcement below, right here on The Rock Father...

The folks at Disney Junior have just ordered more full seasons for three of their most popular shows. DOC McSTUFFINS and SOFIA THE FIRST have just received orders for a third season, while JAKE AND THE NEVER LAND PIRATES will return for a fourth. While all three are loved here at Rock Father HQ, it's DOC that's the runaway hit for us. In fact, Santa brought the sought-after Doc McStuffins Check-up Center (Just Play Toys) for my girls a few weeks back. Check out some words from the Disney Junior team below...

Today is the day that BATDAD RETURNS. And, when I say "BatDad," I'm referring to the real BATDAD, not the largely-unfunny imposter that popped up on Vine at some point after the one true BATDAD first appeared. Yes, the guy that stole all of the real BATDAD's press, not unlike those fake "Batmen" that once popped in Gotham City sporting outfits cobbled together from used sporting goods and tights, doing such a bad job that the real BATMAN had to bail them out and show the true power of THE DARK KNIGHT. After all, everyone knows that the real BATDAD at least has a mask and cowl that envelopes his entire head. In fact, the OG BATDAD first appeared all the way back in May of 2012 via the webseries, MARRIAGE AND OTHER TRAGEDIES (which I featured here on The Rock Father last summer), where he faced-off against such heinous villains as Pinkie Pie from MY LITTLE PONY: FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC, who may have actually been a dastardly pillow pet. Alas, BATDAD RETURNS for a new adventure: BATDAD'S BUELLER KIND OF DAY OFF. Watch it below...

It's a small week for new releases, but that doesn't mean that there's not some good stuff out there for families looking for something fresh to watch during these cold days and nights. This week's DVD titles include new installments of CHUGGINGTON, THE OCTONAUTS, PAC-MAN, TICKETY TOC and more. Let's take a look at what's hitting retail shelves right now...

Review: DESPICABLE ME 2 (Blu-Ray)

Written by

During the mad holiday rush here at Rock Father HQ, a number of titles arrived that although featured in my gift guide and on my social networks, never got the proper feature that they deserved. Among those, DESPICABLE ME 2 stands out as a biggie - one that a lot of you might've found in your (or placed in someone else's) stocking, judging from the record-breaking haul that found the movie becoming the best-performing animated title of all-time on Blu-ray in it's opening week. While Steve Carell might be the high-dollar talent returning to voice the reformed villian, Gru, it's the little, incomprehensible Minions that are the real stars here (and the studio knows it) - in a movie that's interestingly enough, a celebration of fatherhood that was set-up in the first.

Next Tuesday (that's January 14), my friends at Disney will be releasing HENRY HUGGLEMONSTER: MEET THE HUGGLEMONSTERS, a new collection that brings six episodes of the popular Disney Junior preschool series to DVD for the very first time. To celebrate, we're going to get one lucky reader hooked-up with a copy for their little one(s), right here on The Rock Father. Ready to pay a visit to Roarsville???

THOR: THE DARK WORLD Coming Home in February...

Written by

I'm finally catching up on the MARVEL Cinematic Universe here at Rock Father HQ. Having missed their theatrical runs, I just watched CAPTAIN AMERICA and THE AVENGERS last week, and I still have to catch IRON MAN 3 and the first THOR film. Now comes an email into HQ this evening with news that THOR: THE DARK WORLD is already headed home, with a Digital HD release on February 4 followed by a February 25th bow on Blu-ray and DVD. Check out the new trailer and specs below, and get those pre-orders in!

The folks at The Hub are kicking off 2014 in-style with new episodes of their original series' THE AQUABATS! SUPER SHOW!, LITTLEST PET SHOP, SABRINA: SECRETS OF A TEENAGE WITCH, and MY LITTLE PONY: FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC. They've provided The Rock Father with details on all the new episodes, which I'm sharing with you below. All times listed are Eastern, and additional details can be found over at HubWorld.com.
