Today is the day that BATDAD RETURNS. And, when I say "BatDad," I'm referring to the real BATDAD, not the largely-unfunny imposter that popped up on Vine at some point after the one true BATDAD first appeared. Yes, the guy that stole all of the real BATDAD's press, not unlike those fake "Batmen" that once popped in Gotham City sporting outfits cobbled together from used sporting goods and tights, doing such a bad job that the real BATMAN had to bail them out and show the true power of THE DARK KNIGHT. After all, everyone knows that the real BATDAD at least has a mask and cowl that envelopes his entire head. In fact, the OG BATDAD first appeared all the way back in May of 2012 via the webseries, MARRIAGE AND OTHER TRAGEDIES (which I featured here on The Rock Father last summer), where he faced-off against such heinous villains as Pinkie Pie from MY LITTLE PONY: FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC, who may have actually been a dastardly pillow pet. Alas, BATDAD RETURNS for a new adventure: BATDAD'S BUELLER KIND OF DAY OFF. Watch it below...

It's a small week for new releases, but that doesn't mean that there's not some good stuff out there for families looking for something fresh to watch during these cold days and nights. This week's DVD titles include new installments of CHUGGINGTON, THE OCTONAUTS, PAC-MAN, TICKETY TOC and more. Let's take a look at what's hitting retail shelves right now...

Review: DESPICABLE ME 2 (Blu-Ray)

Written by

During the mad holiday rush here at Rock Father HQ, a number of titles arrived that although featured in my gift guide and on my social networks, never got the proper feature that they deserved. Among those, DESPICABLE ME 2 stands out as a biggie - one that a lot of you might've found in your (or placed in someone else's) stocking, judging from the record-breaking haul that found the movie becoming the best-performing animated title of all-time on Blu-ray in it's opening week. While Steve Carell might be the high-dollar talent returning to voice the reformed villian, Gru, it's the little, incomprehensible Minions that are the real stars here (and the studio knows it) - in a movie that's interestingly enough, a celebration of fatherhood that was set-up in the first.

Next Tuesday (that's January 14), my friends at Disney will be releasing HENRY HUGGLEMONSTER: MEET THE HUGGLEMONSTERS, a new collection that brings six episodes of the popular Disney Junior preschool series to DVD for the very first time. To celebrate, we're going to get one lucky reader hooked-up with a copy for their little one(s), right here on The Rock Father. Ready to pay a visit to Roarsville???

THOR: THE DARK WORLD Coming Home in February...

Written by

I'm finally catching up on the MARVEL Cinematic Universe here at Rock Father HQ. Having missed their theatrical runs, I just watched CAPTAIN AMERICA and THE AVENGERS last week, and I still have to catch IRON MAN 3 and the first THOR film. Now comes an email into HQ this evening with news that THOR: THE DARK WORLD is already headed home, with a Digital HD release on February 4 followed by a February 25th bow on Blu-ray and DVD. Check out the new trailer and specs below, and get those pre-orders in!

The folks at The Hub are kicking off 2014 in-style with new episodes of their original series' THE AQUABATS! SUPER SHOW!, LITTLEST PET SHOP, SABRINA: SECRETS OF A TEENAGE WITCH, and MY LITTLE PONY: FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC. They've provided The Rock Father with details on all the new episodes, which I'm sharing with you below. All times listed are Eastern, and additional details can be found over at HubWorld.com.

On January 14, Disney Junior will release HENRY HUGGLEMONSTER: MEET THE HUGGLEMONSTERS on DVD (pre-order now). This new collection features six episodes of the show, along with a bonus episode of SHERIFF CALLIE'S WILD WEST, and some "Monstrous" iron-on decals. Check out a new clip called "Stomp," along with full details on the home release below, right here on The Rock Father...

As we rock into the New Year, the landscape around Rock Father HQ looks an awful lot like HOTH, and that means a lot more time is being spent inside. Cold nights are often spent catching up on TV, and sometimes, DVD box sets are the way to go. That said, my friends at 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment have partnered with The Rock Father to get one lucky reader hooked up with an Ultimate TV Bundle pack featuring three of their recent DVD releases. These shows fall into that sorta PG+ realm, so they're not for the younger kids, but I'm sure that plenty of you have fans of FAMILY GUY, FUTURAMA, or TEEN WOLF that would be happy to have these for spending some time catching up on TV during these winter months ahead...

On January 21, 2014, the folks at Shout! Factory Kids in association with Hasbro Studios will release THE ADVENTURES OF CHUCK AND FRIENDS: TRUCKS VERSUS WILD on DVD. This new release features ten episodes of the popular series (currently airing on The Hub) along with an all-new sing-along. Check out the episode listing below...

While my girls aren't old enough to have caught "Bieber Fever," I know that a lot of you have children that love JUSTIN BIEBER (or maybe you're a fan yourself). Tonight, Justin Bieber's BELIEVE will have it's red-carpet premiere (catch it streaming over at MTV), and that makes today the perfect time to launch a giveaway. To celebrate the upcoming release of this new documentary film, I'm getting two (2) lucky readers hooked-up with Mini-Posters just like the one pictured below. Want a chance to win? Read on...

THE SIMPSONS: The Sixteenth Season (Blu-Ray Review)

Written by

125simpsonsIt's sometimes weird to think that THE SIMPSONS has been on the air in first-run episodes for 25 Seasons already. A quarter-century since the show first aired (I taped the very first episode on VHS from a UHF broadcast via WFLD Channel 32 in Chicago), it seems like THE SIMPSONS have always been there, and will never go away. Watching the new Blu-ray release of THE SIMPSONS: THE SIXTEENTH SEASON (courtesy of Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment), it was an experience to see these nearly decade-old episodes (it's the 2004-2005 season) looking brand-new, and actually... some of them were new to me.

There's always a lot happening in the world of Disney, and today I've got some quick news bites on some new Apps for iOS users (featuring Disney Junior's DOC McSTUFFINS, SOFIA THE FIRST and MICKEY MOUSE), along with some home video blurbs on THE PIRATE FAIRY, THE JUNGLE BOOK 2, FROZEN, and MARY POPPINS. Check out all the goods below, right here on The Rock Father!
